I guess for that amount of money, I could have rented a Wrangler in Moab like 6 times and spared my car the wear and tear.... Oh well. They are MUCH bigger than I expected based on everyone's photos. The pics don't do them justice. I'm not sure I like how big they are. Hopefully they will grow on me. It is definitely harder to get in and out without touching the pants to them. But, they can be used as a step.

I do think they will grow on you. I dont think they are nessarily too big, but the previously shown pics were a bit deceptive due to the higher offset wheels that stick out further. The stockers look a bit smallish now with my Laredo. The rails protrude a bit beyond the outer tire edge. I'm thinking of putting some 35ETs on it so maybe that will help the look. A set of hubcentric wheel spacers would probably do the trick also.

Re: WK2 Rock Rails In!

So mine should be delivered in about a week. I'm definitely looking forward to these, still not sure about the install though. Definitely a lot more complicated than the Kevins rock sliders I put on ZJ!

I'll see what kind of a price my dealer gives me.

FYI, my dealer initially tried to charge me full list, ridiculous...

Thanks for the great update!!!

I didn't know they stick out more than side step.

Heres a couple of shots from mine.. I dont think they stick out enough to use as a step, tried it and it seems awkward. I've had vehicles with steps and rockrails (hummer h2) and these dont have the same "step feel" as step tubes. Maybe if they were a little lower ans stuck out maybe an inch further, I would feel differently.. Maybe you would feel differently yourself, but these are what they are, rock rails..

Here's a GC (different year) but you get the idea the difference..

Re: WK2 Rock Rails In!

Thanks, JDrew. Rock rails certainly look nice but since I don't take my WK2 to rock trails, I feel installing them is just overkill. And it would cost me about $1600 to have them shipped and installed here in Korea.

Re: WK2 Rock Rails In!

I just had these quoted at my dealer.... retail with 1.5 hrs labor was going to be about a grand. Maybe we can get some kind of group buy going for these?

1.5 hrs? Haha They've obviously never installed these .. A word of advice, if you plan on waiting in the lounge while they work on it, pack a lunch.

yea that's what it has listed for labor in the MOPAR book so that's what he quoted.

I just had my RRs installed by my guy, who is a Jeep dealership mechanic. With help, it took him like 5-6 hours. He said he'll never do this install again. No one at his dealership had ever installed 2011-2012 GC rock rails before.

Get that 1 1/2 hr quote in writing.
