Working on Overland-fying my Laredo X, Pics to come!
I've been pretty much a silent (but very regular!) observer of the forums since purchasing my 2011 Laredo X back in February. I've read some great tips and ideas and even learned a ton. Normally, I am really not a fun of chrome on cars. And kind of going along with that, I really appreciate a factory look. Any modifications I have done to past cars and plan to do with this one will maintain a somewhat stock look.
That said, I can appreciate chrome when the company has done it right, and I really think the chrome trim on the Overland/Limited models looks tasteful. It blends nicely with the chrome surround that goes around the windows, and while I'm neutral on the Grand Cherokee plate, I think it balances well and doesn't look like a tacky add-on. I'm really on a budget here, and considering this is something I wasn't necessarily sold on, I went ahead and ordered a chrome "cover" set for about $35. I figured that it wasn't going to break the bank and with caps I would be able to set them on before deciding to move forward. With 3M adhesive, I think they'll be fairly easy to get off and any residue can be removed with Goo Gone. Worst case scenario, it's just the door handles/mirrors, which are relatively easy to replace.
Anyways...I put the chrome caps on today and am very pleased with the outcome. It's not an OEM fit, but for $35 I didn't expect that and think it would take a trained eye to notice the difference. They do the job of emulating the Overland look. Next on the agenda will be the chrome bumper trim (I saw it on Just for Jeeps but am waiting to see if a deal will come around on eBay or here) for the front bumper, then potentially the bumper pad surround for the rear. When I have the funds, I would like to replace the grille with either a summit or Overland one, but don't know if the difference justifies the price. Also would like to add the HID headlamps at some point in addition to either the 20" Laredo appearance package wheels or the 20" Overland wheels.
I will post some pictures as soon as I can take some. My question for y'all is, what can I do to make sure these caps don't come off in the car wash or from regular use? I get that they're cheap and not quite the fit and finish of OEM parts, but I still would like to maintain the look for as long as possible.
