This diagram was requested in order to show where someone would use the splitters if they decide to go that route.

Re: 10 minute foot well RGB LED ambient lighting.

Hell of a job and write up, kudos. I'm still contemplating on this. I remember my first lighting project, when I was in 5th grade, was putting bulbs on the bottom of my roller skates in the late '70s.

Re: 10 minute foot well RGB LED ambient lighting.

Nice write up!

If I was not afraid I'd hose something up severely... I'd probably give it ago. However, me and "wires" have proven a less then great mix in the past.

Speaking of lighting, I'm slightly perturbed that the back door handles don't seem to have ambient lighting, nor does the entire back row (cupholders).

Clearly, the further back you go, the lower in class you get...

Perhaps a curtain behind the front seats to really let them know where they stand, or sit rather...

All my stuff has been ordered and shipped. Hope to do this as soon as the gear comes in.

Thanks for the great write up, Jeff

Great to hear Jeff, everyone who has gotten in my car has asked me to do theirs, with the exception of my wife, she kinda rolled her eyes and then appeased me by saying it was cool.

If you have any questions once you get going let me know. And of course we are going to want to see pictures as you are doing it a little differently than I did.

For the inline fuse, you'll want something similar to the below link. You may be able to get it at radio shack even.

Re: 10 minute foot well RGB LED ambient lighting.

I might run into autozone and see if they have an inline fuse. I am sure i can find one. We are wanting a 20amp though?

I am linking to an adaftuit article that talks about this so you can calculate by how much you use

http://learn.adafruit.com/rgb-led-strips/current-draw

The draw from the LEDs is so minimal I don't think it's necessary after all. The controller pulls more than the LEDs and if that fails from a power surge it will protect the LEDs which have resisters built into the strips. The controller is so cheap ($5-10) I've just decided I'll replace that if I ever need to. That would be my advice. 20amps is too much that was really just to show you what the part looked like.

If you decide to do the fuse you'll want the amps really low. Like I said I've decided not to bother...

Re: 10 minute foot well RGB LED ambient lighting.

If the current load was to high wouldn't the stock fuse blow?

Possibly, either way, I'm not worried about it...
