It did get close at the end to getting behind shield and hitting sway bar, but it just missed. If car is up to high in front I'm sure it will hit sway bar and splash oil behind shield.
Two things I did notice is that gasket got stuck to housing. I know your always suppose to check, but in 25 years this was the first time. Must be the design of the filter for it to pull off so easy. The other strange thing was when refilling with oil I started getting a gurgling sound coming from air filter. Once a slowed down the the rate of fill it stopped. I removed air filter to check for any oil and it was oil free. Drain Plug and Oil Filter where not over tightened like some others have reported. The recommended 7 quarts brought it to the bottom of the hash marks. Ended up going with 7.5 quarts which brought it 3/4 of the way up the hash marks.

Maybe they didn't lube the gasket well enough, never seen one stick myself either but always check. Using more oil than the manual says would drive me nuts. I'd never stop thinking what is wrong, the manual or the dipstick length. I think I read the GC owners had this issue too.

Looking forward to changing mine out but for the first time I've decided not to change it early. I don't know if the factory fill is doped with Moly like Honda does but I'm gonna ride it out for better or worse and hope the filter is doing its job.

Yes maybe that was it. Lets see if it sticks next time. I have read the same with the GC owners, anywhere from seven to nine quarts. I figured it calls for seven and it was just in the good level, figured an other half a quart won't hurt being its still below the top of hash marks. Did you ever look into the oil suction machine for yours being the V6 has the filter up top? It looked like Mercedes Motors where designed for that method or at least many shops use it. Wonder if it would work on your Pentestar?

Are there any oil changes included in the purchase? If not, that's cool, prefer to do my own anyway. How long you going before the first change?

Re: 2014 5.7 oil filter #

My dealer did throw in some oil changes however I prefer doing it my self to ensure it gets done correctly and to look for any other possible problems. Today was my first and I did it a 2,000 miles. Oil monitior stated 80% oil life left. I plan on doing it every 5,000 miles from now on. Manual states not to exceed 10,000 miles between changes, at least with the 5.7.

I do have a high end oil extractor and it works like a champ on the Mercedes. Instead using a tube it has an adapter that fits into the top of the dipstick tube creating a seal. Open the vacuum and it takes about a minute to suck every last drop out.

Unfortunately the Durango does not have the same design and the adapter would not work. Also, looking at the engine cut aways an allpar.com you can see the dipstick tube does not go all the way to the bottom of the pan so it wouldn't get all the oil out even if I did make an adaptor for it. However, you can still stick a tube down the dipstick line, it will just take longer because of the smaller diameter. I'm going to try this and then pull the plug to see if there's any oil it didn't get.
