Seriously??
Man, this country is getting more weird by the minute! I have NEVER heard of such a thing. Maybe it has to do with the Performance Tuning on the R/T.

I had a Dealer offer to put on a "third party hitch" because a Citadel had everything I wanted except the Tow Package and I refused because I was worried the factory kit included lots of additional features I'd be missing.

But wheels tied to the VIN -- bizarre!

Like I said, this is what I was told and I just accepted it as I didn't care that much and I'm considering a wheel change anyway. Maybe the upgraded wheels will have better resale value.

If you were going to put on third party rims I'm sure it would not be an issue, it's the swapping that becomes the issue as they are changing the window sticker of the car and the vin of the wheels.

Good plan to pass on the third party hitch, since that's all you would've gotten...a hitch.

The factory package has extra transmission cooling, load leveling rear, full size spare, wiring, etc.

That probably makes a lot of sense, now that I think about it. I wasn't giving you a hard time. Just teasing a bit. I never thought about it before, but I can see where the Window Sticker would be affected.

The right vehicle will come along. Or you can special-order. That's what I had to do.

Yeah... that was finally confirmed weeks later -- by the Sales Rep the same Dealer turned me over to while trying to work out a Factory Order. But their numbers never got out of the "average" category.

It's funny, but the very first dealer I went to ended up giving me the best deal, after all. Not a fantastic one, but the best one I could wrangle.

I was amazed, however, how often I'd get a declaration from so many Sales Reps that they had located my "exact vehicle" -- only to realize they had not. The Tech Group was missing. Or the HEMI. It got a little ridiculous.

Lol, I didn't even realize you were teasing, I was just adding extra info.

Well, back in 1960 or 1970, if you told a Dealer "I want different wheels." -- he would've jacked the car up on concrete blocks in the showroom to make that happen before you finished your sentence!

There is no way a VIN is on a wheel! Dealers will say anything. I had to have a wheel replaced on my R/T because of damage on the wheel that I discovered the day after delivery. I informed my dealer and they took care of it. I asked them if they could simply swap the wheel with another R/T rather than having to order one...they said no because they wanted Chrysler to pay for it and not them.

Re: 2014 Citadel With Blu-Ray - Initial Impressions

Also - I had a dealer tell me that if I took the '14 they had coming in on a truck they would put a tow hitch on it for me and if I didn't like I didn't have the buy. I said no as I could not accept aftermarket and the rear bumper coming off.

This same dealer tried to close me on a '13 R/T Blacktop...he thought I did not like the black wheels so he offered to swap those for me.

Whacky!

I'm not sure what my sales person knew or not, they do etch windows with Vins on request so maybe he thought the wheels too. Maybe I'm being nice. At the end of the day though I think it came fine to window stickers being wrong. Even if the upgraded wheels were basically free to the person getting the car, they didn't seem to want to do it.

Unfortunately, its not all that ridiculous. Its fairly commonplace. Like how many dealers in my area I had to tell them over and over what I wanted.

They'd also stop searching when they found a vehicle that came close (when we were first going to do a 2013). Then I'd find one at another dealer a little further away (using the Dodge site).

As you can imagine, none of these folks got the sale.

Two out if the last three cars I've purchased, including the Durango, I had to find the vehicle I wanted at another lot get the vin and tell the dealer "Go get this, don't call me back until it's secured!" It's not hard to do the research, just makes you wonder what the dealers are up to. Autotrader has all the check boxes to find exactly what you want including a keyword add on search. I think the sales people are going for numbers and would rather be out to grab walk ins then do the research.
