Do you have a control number for an affiliate program yet?

If not (and your employer doesn't have one to offer), expend the $100 or so to get one, will save you a TON of negotiating.

As for what you are going through with the 2013's, it sounds like the dealers you are working with are complete pinheads.

Throw the net wider, call 5-7 dealers. You should not be having any issues getting a vehicle you want moved to a dealer you want to work with.

I have a control number, and it really boosted the % off one dealer was willing to offer on a 2014. A couple of others are sticking at 1% below invoice, and a couple more just don't want to talk at all until pricing is available.

Oh how I just love the car buying process. :-(
Since orders re-open in a few days, I've sent a new round of messages out and expanded my list of dealers a bit. I've been getting some replies in. My current strategy has been listing what I'm interested and asking if they could check to see if it matches anything they've already ordered. So far, two said they didn't have a match and said I'd need to order. Nobody is talking any kind of percent yet. I'll see what they say in the next round of responses.

Sounds to me like they're pretty much offering you invoice price but you can do better with the -1% with the affiliate control #. I don't get my number for another week and a half. :-(

#491 ·
Sounds like the 2014 people are having as good a luck as I am with a 2013...not much.

I contacted a True Car dealer - the offered me two Crews neither of which were equipped the way I spec'ed out to them.

They got back to me and said they would see what they could find. Tomorrow I'm calling back the other dealer that has the truck we want in transit to them and see if I can work a deal.

The low end of TrueCar around here is about $35k optioned as we want. All the dealers are at MSRP - incentives. And..I discovered today that the dealer from Saturday was MSRP less a discount that didn't equal the $3500 in incentives that I thought were available.

When was the last time you saw someone who wanted to buy, but a dealer that didn't want to sell????

#492 ·
So, on a lark, to see how bad it was out there I pinged the dealer I'm working with to see what they'd offer.

Here's the deal I have:

5% under invoice on the vehicle of my choice. They are going to order my Jeep Overland CRD AND the Durango Citadel on Friday.

Once they both come in, I pick the one I want.

Maybe it's just the PacNW dealers. Most of them up here have been pretty eager to help out/make a deal.

OUTSTANDING! I'm a bit jealous. So the dealer agreed to order both and you will have your choice? Sweet. Ive been concerned about being on the hook once I put down a deposit, although I can't imagine changing my mind after all this.

#499 ·
Keep in mind, the dealer I'm working with was one of 12 (!) that I've been talking to for almost a year now. Of the 12 I started with, only 2 have been willing to work a solid deal on % under invoice on vehicles with no pricing yet.

It took me months of negotiating to drive them into the corner like this. On average, getting a dealer to 1% under invoice is the baseline (with the control number) to start from. Getting them to 2% should be easy (especially if you do the math for them and make it clear you understand that when the control number is used, that you know how much they are getting back from CyrFi).

3% will take some foot work to do and most dealers will be a hard sell to get there (as that eats almost all their profit). If you are at a large volume place though, this should be doable.

Anything beyond that you need to be SUPER careful on the deal (especially your trade value, and those fee's) as unless they do a TON of business, they will screw you somewhere to make up the losses.

That being said, I'd strongly recommend to folks to wander over to the WK2 section and do a search for "Group Buys" in your area (or region). I know there's a fair number on the East Coast (some DC guys wrangled an insane deal). Colorado and Texas also have a couple (as does the PacNW).

That's where I'd start. I'd also encourage you to PM the folks that negotiated the deals. Chances are they can put you in touch with the sales person they worked with and/or teach you the secret handshake you need to get in good with the dealer.

If you can't find one in your area, post. Ask if anyone has purchased in your area and what they got for a deal. It's possible that someone in your area has worked a sweet deal already with a dealership and has a name for you.

Getting screwed with fees had me worried so I researched the affiliate program seeing what others experienced. The destination charge should be included in the invoice price. The only fees can be the program $75 fee and the dealer document fee. I found a salesman that posted the Affiliates Official Program Rules from Chrysler. In there is the following paragraphs:

"Preferred Price:
A participating dealer submitting a claim under this program must sell or lease the vehicle at the Preferred Price (a maximum of 1% below factory invoice plus a $75 administration fee).

The dealer must show the participant a copy of the Factory Invoice.

Dealer installed options are negotiable between the participant and the dealer, and must be itemized and individually priced on a fully executed Bill of Sale and on the Pricing and Acknowledgement Form signed by the dealer and the purchaser/lessee. A net Bill of Sale without detail is not acceptable.

The dealer price to purchaser/lessee is calculated by adding dealer-installed options and/or Over Allowance on Trade amounts to the Preferred Price. The participant may not be charged for any preparation fees, delivery and handling charges, service or overhead fees, or any other such delivery fees under this program. Documentation fees are allowable under the respective governing State in which the vehicle is titled. Documentation fees may not exceed those normally charged on any other sales transaction.

Administration Fee:
Each participant must pay a $75 program administration fee to help offset the cost necessary to support this program.

Dealer Reimbursement:
Payments under Chrysler Affiliate Rewards will be made as part of the weekly DealerCONNECT incentive claim processing system. Incentive payments will be processed and made to dealers by EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) or as a debit or credit against their monthly parts account. The $75 administration fee paid to the selling dealer by the participating customer will be deducted from the 2% payment made to the selling dealer by Chrysler. Participating dealers retain 1% of the 2% payment paid to dealers by Chrysler for all eligible Preferred Price
vehicle sales."

Well, I think we've decided to "give up" a bit. The lack of response, so far, from any of the dealers is frustrating.

We don't need to be rid of the Honda - my wife promised to stop complaining about it, and she's not all that hot to spend the money if we don't have to. We know the next (expensive) repair is on the horizon as we have a suspect under hood fuse box, and it'll need a timing belt in 9 months or so, but that still gives us time.

Bottom line, I don't need to be chasing them...

My guess is, come month end, they'll be all over me to see if we're still interested. Hopefully, at that point, something that meets our needs is stilll available, or I work a deal on a 2014 (hopefully we'll have real pricing soon).

I'll keep checking in here - the Durango will still fit our needs best. Thanks for the support, and good luck.

#515 ·
Well, came home tonight to find an email reply from one of the dealers I've contacted about ordering a 2014 Durango. Maybe I'm missing something, but this is the worst deal yet. And the dealer said.........

I have searched far and wide and the only 2013 Durango Citadel that is anything like what you are looking for is located in Washington. There is only ONE available in 3,000 miles. Now, I know you are looking for a 2014, but below is the window sticker to this vehicle with the options you are wanting. Here is the link below. The 2014 should be priced similar to this one. Let me know if you have any other questions. At this time all I can quote you at this time is the MSRP. Let me know if you have any other questions.

#516 · (Edited)
Thanks for the updated specifications and pricing.

Thanks to all for posting about dealers offering prices well below invoice, as I would have thought invoice was about the best I could do.

It seems odd indeed that they have not published the full pricing and the MPG at this late date.

I'll be at the Orange County California Auto Show October opening day, Thursday, October 3. Is anyone else here going?

#520 ·
As I was searching ways to get a control number for the Rewards program, I of course, found the Treadlightly.org site for $75 fee to join which I saw earlier in this thread. Also found one called accessfund.org with a $35 join fee. Just FYI. :D
Accessfund!

Gah, I knew there was another one out there but couldn't recall the name.

Good find. I highly recommend people grabbing either of them. At a min, it will make negotiating a decent price a lot easier.

#522 ·
Tried to put in my order today for a '14 Citadel AWD but Deep Cherry Red was not listed as a color choice in their computer. It was there for the RWD version but didn't come up for AWD. The sales guys were stumped and could only offer maybe it will change on Friday when Chrysler starts accepting orders again.

#523 ·
Are you-all who are having problems dealing with the regular sales staff or the fleet department? The fleet people I've dealt with know that nobody pays over invoice, and do not try to sell you anything other than what you want. Of course, it sounds like the Dodge invoice has been raised, relative to the sticker, so below invoice is the norm.

When I was ready to order a 2007 Explorer, the fleet department woman at Santa Margarita Ford was nice enough to tell me they had the same thing in a 2006 on the lot, just a slightly different color. That day, Ford announced a $3,000 discount on remaining 2006 models, so that is what I bought.

#525 ·
Well, I spoke too soon. Houston salesperson said he would be in around 11 today and he would contact me. Sent him an email about noon with my direct #. Finally called him about 3:30 and got his VM. Called awhile ago to let me know he had taken to day off at the last minute. Very nice, very apologetic, very unproductive afternoon for me. He promises quick and painless with all questions answered, so perhaps by tomorrow this time.......

Milous - Wife is really wanting the 2014 Durango. Need to be able to access the 3rd row without flipping up the 2nd, which means captains chairs in 2nd row with no center console. The .pdfs you posted in post #1 seem to indicate that you can't delete the 2nd row center console if you get captains chairs - I don't see that option. Is this the case?

That is not the case. The reason for the confusion is that there are actually two different consoles. You will get one of them with captains chairs.

The console as you traditionally think of one is optional if you get the captains chairs. This is a "full" console that sits high between the chairs, acts as an arm-rest, has cupholders and storage. (It also has a 115V power outlet USB charging port and "illuminated" cup holders.) You can't "walk through" to the back with this console.

The second console is a "low profile" console or "mini-console". This is the standard console with the captains charis. It sits maybe an inch or so off the floor and has a couple cup holders and a tray where you can lay items on top of. It is purposely built to allow you to "walk through" to the back.

Here's links to a couple shots of the interior with the mini-console (This happens to be 2012 R/T interior):

So as long as you don't order the optional "full" console with center armrest and storage with the captains chairs, you will be able to walk through to the back.

One other note...with the standard low profile console, you get the armrests on the inboard side of the captains chairs. With the optional console you no longer have arm rests on the chairs...the top of the console serves as the arm rest.

I'm getting the full console...I only have two kids so won't use the third row that often, and when I do use it the kids are old enough (11 and 13) to operate the tilt and tumble. They will also appreciate the storage and power jacks. If my kids were younger and especially if they still used car seats, I would go with the mini-console for sure.

The other downside of the full console is that if you fold all the chairs flat (3rd and 2nd row), the top of the center console sticks up a few inches, meaning your load floor isn't completely flat....but I'll live with that.

Power pedals were a Ford thing, their attempt to get around have a telescoping steering column. It keep me from buying a 500, as I had to move the seat too far forward for arms to reach the steering wheel (34" sleeve), so my leg space was inadequate (also 34" inseam, 6' 1" tall). I think they have dropped it from current models.

I'm SO excited, and guess I will be even more so if the Durango order banks DO reopen tomorrow. The great folks on this forum directed me to a great guy to work with in Houston, and the process was pretty painless. I still need a few fine points in writing to calm my skepticism, but looks like he will be placing an order for me ASAP. Yay! Local dealer called this morning after coming out of a prolonged hibernation. I had emailed the anticipated TX deal and asked if he could come anywhere close. He said no, but wished me well and said he was excited for me. Said a couple of other ppl in the dealership just shook their heads when he told them the %off invoice I was getting with a control #. The other shoe usually drops at my house.....lets hope NOT this time.:)

I have been calling dealers in my area today for pricing on a 2014 Citadel v6. The best I was able to get was 1% under plus half the holdback. Basically works out to about 2.6% under invoice. All the others are holding at 1%.

One thing I found was when I had a dealer try to put the order in, he couldn't add the Entertainment option at all. Not sure if that means it "can't" be ordered or if he won't order it with a very possible delay in build
