The optional system is the 9 speaker + subwoofer Alpine system. One 2014 owner who previously had the 2012 Alpine system said the Alpine had been improved from his previous version. I'm not an audiophile but I do find the system to be good (not stellar). In Surround Sound it certainly is more enjoyable and is seamless with all the UConnect controls and inputs. There may be better options with the Grand Cherokee - the SRT version has double the speakers. I have read good things about the Durango standard system too but haven't heard it. The one drawback with the Alpine is the subwoofer takes up half the storage box under the cargo area. It's enough residual space for me but others are swapping out the sub and putting back the larger storage bin.

Okay so then the Dodge website is wrong? If you click to compare the Limited to the SXT Plus, for example, it lists the Limited as having 9 speakers standard, with a 506W amplifier as optional. That's where my confusion rests.

Its possible that its changed since the Features/Availability PDF I have was published, but I also checked our window sticker (early October build) and under standard features it shows 6 speakers.

6 Speakers

With the upgrade (subwoofer+amp) it shows 9.

9 Amplified Speakers with Subwoofer $ 595
506-Watt Amplifier

There are a bunch of mistakes on the Dodge website, like no Rally version. I believe if you build the model you want on the website the info is more reliable. Also the info on the first page of this thread provided by Milous is also more reliable. Then again, the Dodge site works better than Healthcare.gov. ;-)

Re: 2014 Durango - Features and Changes

Finally got a chance to look at the 9 speakers that you get with the option/upgraded package.

It is 9 speakers + the subwoofer for a total of 10.

Here's where the 9 are (the ones in red are the standard ones)
1 - Middle of upper dash near the base of the windshield
2 - one each at the base of the A pillars
2 - one in each front door
2 - one in each rear door

2 - one in the upper part of each D pillar

The subwoofer as mentioned is below the cargo floor in the storage bin. I'm one that will be swapping it out for the standard cargo bin.

Hope this helps.

Rallye is not a model - it's an option package.

Re: 2014 Durango - Features and Changes

Are the wiper controls on the turn signal stalk illuminated at night? I drove around at night in the rain for the first time and saw mine was not. Leaving for a 10 hour drive back home from San Diego in a bit and I'll be thinking about this all the way home I'm sure.

They are not, and I cannot recall the last vehicle I drove where they were. Would be a nice feature.

Love this forum, thanks Dave. My '96 expedition was the only car I had with this feature.

When I look at the features chart on the website and expand to show all features in the Audio section it shows the SXT, SXT Plus and Limited only have 6 speakers, and no sub.

The R/T and Citadel have everything.
