I believe each seat has it's own player built into the display. Don't quote me on that though.

I'll try to dig up the media guide to double check.

For me, it's not about a minor inconvenience of using it when needed...it's more about the space in the center console it takes up. (Though I haven't seen the unit myself to know how much space it needs.)

Thanks, Immo. I couldn't find anything on jeep.com about the technical implementation of the Blu-Ray player other than of course the screens are integrated into the seat-backs.

It would be nice to know (in addition to the location of the player(s)), the following:

1) If there are dual players, can you play one DVD/Blu-ray disc and have the output go to both screens
2) Is the sound integrated into the main head unit, so it can be played through the car's speakers if desired? (Or is it limited to headphones?)

Bingo.

Go look at a Jeep Grand Cherokee...

I repeat... Stupidest placement ever.

Yes, DVD player (DVD/CD) replaces CD player, in same convenient location (center console).

Single player to --> one or both seatback screens. Sound via speakers or headphones.

Thanks, Milous.

I'll definitely have to check out a '14 GC on the lot with a CD player to see how much room that takes up in the console. I'm assuming the Blu-Ray player will take up similar room as the CD only player...hopefully not much.

I'll have to stop in at my dealer later today or tomorrow and ask about the ordering process. I've never done it for a vehicle that was not yet available to test drive. Does anyone know if generally speaking I can have one ordered risk - free...(get a deposit returned should I decide not to take it once it's delivered?) Or is that pretty much dealer dependent?

Re: 2014 Durango - Features and Changes

I've looked through the feature .pdf and have a couple of questions.
  • On page 1, It says High-intensity Discharge (HID) bi-xenon headlamps. Includes automatic headlamp leveling system and halogen high beams. This is for the Citadel and R/T and available as a package on the Limited. Page 6 simply lists it as High-intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps with automatic headlamp leveling. At the bottom page 7, an option for the Limited and R/T is the Safety, Security, and Convenience Group... which includes auto high beam headlamps and low beam HID auto-leveling headlamps (Limited). I'm not sure what this means, it seems to contradict itself.
If they're "bi" xenon, where does the halogen high-beam come in? I thought bi-xenon meant both low and high beam in one bulb. There are 3 references to the HID headlamps and none of them match.
  • My next question is in regards to the Uconnect Access via Mobile vs. Uconnect Access via Mobile with voice recognition. Some places in the feature .pdf show this as voice recognition navigation while others omit the word navigation and just show voice recognition. What is voice recognition... is that supposed to really refer to navigation? Examples of this are on pages 3 and 7 of the feature availability .pdf. What I'm really trying to ensure is that I can use my bluetooth phone hands free. Does the Limited have that by default? Do all models have that by default?
  • Finally, on page 3 under Multimedia Systems, the first 3 options show the touchscreen with AM/FM/CD/..., yet a single CD player is an option a few lines below that. I think this is just a copy and paste artifact from a previous document but it's clearly misleading.

Many thanks to anybody that can shed some light on this for me.

Re: 2014 Durango - Features and Changes

Ordered!

Don't think it's in the system yet, but I assume it will be today or tomorrow. Pretty much a fully loaded V-6 Citadel (Black with Black/Tan interior), tech package, captains chairs with center console, Blu-ray, trailer package.

Pricing was not in the system yet, but we agreed on $500 over dealer invoice. (Minus any incentives that may ultimately apply). Thought that was fair for a brand new model.

Basically, I put $1,000 down to have my name on the order, but will get that back if I ultimately refuse delivery for whatever reason.

Will have a few weeks until it goes into "D" status to make any changes. I did see a Jeep GC with the CD player on the lot and was not thrilled with how much space that took up in the Jeep console. I may end up removing the Blu-Ray player.

I'm not 100% sure I will end up taking delivery of the Durango, but I want to be able to take delivery in September if I do. For me, it's going to be between the Durango, a 2013 Infiniti JX35 (aka 2014 QX60) or 2014 Acura MDX. The Acuras are just starting to hit the lots now.

There is probably a bit too much "chrome" for my tastes on the Citadel, but my feature requirements limit my options to the Citadel or R/T. For my needs I prefer the V-6 and the non-sport suspension...so Citadel it is.
