I'll be using a different dealer.
I realize I'm naive about all of this, but it sounds like the dealership was discouraging, not encouraging, early orders. Keep us posted if you get a better response at another dealership. I've got a couple I hope to visit this weekend. This should be interesting.

I left very discouraged. I mentioned I knew of others that had placed their orders but they stood their ground. The sales manager was right there and expressed no interest in making any attempt to help me order a 2014. It was 3:00 on Saturday, nowhere near closing time or anything and I only saw 2 other customers in the dealership.

My strategy at this time is to wait for pricing to come out and submit price quotes online to my next closest dealers.

Re: 2014 Durango - Features and Changes

My advice:

Shop many dealers, the more the better. Work out a % below invoice ahead of time if you can. You will need a control number to get anywhere with this tactic (look into TreadLightly, or see if your employer is an affiliate).

Pit dealers against each other. You can easily get to 2%-3% under invoice from most dealers if you use these tactics. Above that amount, you will most likely need to use a large volume dealer (they recoup the losses on individual sales much easier just by moving large quantities of vehicles).

As for pricing, if you use the 2013 ->2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee as a model (price jump %), you'd be looking at a Base Citadel at around: $45,012.74 MSRP and $42,807.11 for Invoice.

Keep in mind, that's IF they do the same % price increase. Chances of that being accurate are sketchy at best (so don't quote me on it), but it's the best I have to work with right now given that they are both seeing the same refresh treatment to the interior and exterior.

Re: 2014 Durango - Features and Changes

Has anyone ordered a 2014 Limited? I did so yesterday, and had hoped to include the "Safety, Security and Convenience Group" (rain-sensitive wipers, power tilt/telescoping, blind-spot monitoring and HIDs), but my dealer says it's not on the system as an option. Does anyone know why this would be the case? We can live without it, but I'd prefer to have it.

Sadly, it still seems like the American auto manufacturers (actually, their dealers) haven't mastered the art of customer service. Seems to me that early orders, especially after a refresh, would be encouraged and could be leveraged in a positive way. And a slow Saturday afternoon and they weren't clammoring to make a sale before you walked out? I have met some well intentioned sales people at our local dealership, but level of product knowledge and lack of polish seemed evident compared to a couple of other dealerships representing foreign automakers. I hope your experience was the exception and not the norm, and that you ultimately end up with a vehicle you love at a price you can live with.

Well, I've emailed two different dealerships to begin the negotiation process. Thanks, Temerarius , for your suggestions. I'll let you know if I get any traction with either dealer.

Re: 2014 Durango - Features and Changes

Just curious, does the Chrysler employee family discount vary at launch versus say 3-6 months after launch, or will I essentially get the same deal either way? Also, what kind of discount is it (leaning toward a fully loaded Citadel, minus the Hemi)? I haven't used it since I bought by 1993 YJ Sport.

A little dated but this should answer your questions

Well, here's my latest (and it is not much) after contacting three Dodge dealers about ordering a 2014 Durango Citadel. Essentially, none are clammoring to help me order one. The first dealership implied they would "have" to wait to order one until pricing was available. Then he finally said they could order without pricing, but the VERY best we could do was the invoice less 1% for F and F control number. Next dealership told me they weren't even sure they could order, but salesman was going to speak with their "order lady" (seriously?) and get back to me. I emailed him two days ago, I called him today and held for 12 minutes, and no call back. He at least implied they could probably do a little bit better than the 1%. Last dealership was very responsive to my Internet inquiry. Salesman said he could help, sent me his phone number and asked me to call him at my convenience. When I did, he told me that his dealership had been told the Citadel model was "restricted" from ordering (what?) for 4 or 5 more days. Sounds to me like he's hoping pricing will become available in that time frame.

Anybody else have any encouraging news?

Citadel RWD model w/3.6L is restricted until next allocation (8/9).
Citadel RWD 5.7L is currently available to order.
Citadel AWD models are restricted until next allocation (8/9).

Still no word on pricing .

Re: 2014 Durango - Features and Changes

Interesting. I had no problems ordering. In fact, I wasn't planning on ordering one on the lunch break when I visited my dealer to test drive a V6 GC (to get a feel for the drive train.) This was the day after the order banks opened.

My sales rep didn't even know the order banks were in fact open, but since they were he suggested I order one. After assuring me that my 1000 deposit would be refunded if I refused delivery, I figured why not. We agreed on $500 over invoice, but I did join an affiliate so will be getting 1% under invoice minus any other incentives that may be available. (Likely nothing).

I received my VON the next day.
