I'm blown away by that. Have you looked outside, perhaps it is in your driveway with a big red bow. Why would any dealer want to carry a 2013 any longer than necessary? If it has the features you desire and they no longer have to carry or advertise it, I would think the discount would be DEEP. Hoping you get a call and a great offer before the end of the day.

Well, I think the sticking point right now for them is the locate/swap. They don't seem to be as willing to deal if its not on the lot (maybe?? who knows).

I've found the one that fits perfectly and its listed as "in transit" to a different dealer in NJ (that was the second dealer I called Saturday).

I'm not calling dealer #1 to tell them about it - I want/need them to come back to me. If dealer #2 calls back I can talk numbers with them too).

My other option is to try a third dealer completely and start with the one I found and see what they say.

Re: 2014 Durango - Features and Changes

Do you have a control number for an affiliate program yet?

If not (and your employer doesn't have one to offer), expend the $100 or so to get one, will save you a TON of negotiating.

As for what you are going through with the 2013's, it sounds like the dealers you are working with are complete pinheads.

Throw the net wider, call 5-7 dealers. You should not be having any issues getting a vehicle you want moved to a dealer you want to work with.

I have a control number, and it really boosted the % off one dealer was willing to offer on a 2014. A couple of others are sticking at 1% below invoice, and a couple more just don't want to talk at all until pricing is available.

Might try TrueCar.com. I used them once and it was painless and dealers were falling all over me. They show in my area deals for 18% below msrp.

Its about the same in my area. I sent a request via TrueCar to one dealer (about an hour away). I got a canned response to which I sent a reply to and have heard nothing.

Its remarkable that I haven't heard from either dealer yesterday. The second one I never talked numbers with - I just wanted them to quote me a #.

Sigh...maybe they don't want the sale.

Well, here's my latest offer....dealership will price what I want at 3% OVER 2013 invoice. Hard to know, but if the JGC prices increased about 3% for 2014, and if the Durango follows suit, doesn't feel like much of a deal. Next.......

Oh how I just love the car buying process. :-(
Since orders re-open in a few days, I've sent a new round of messages out and expanded my list of dealers a bit. I've been getting some replies in. My current strategy has been listing what I'm interested and asking if they could check to see if it matches anything they've already ordered. So far, two said they didn't have a match and said I'd need to order. Nobody is talking any kind of percent yet. I'll see what they say in the next round of responses.

Sounds to me like they're pretty much offering you invoice price but you can do better with the -1% with the affiliate control #. I don't get my number for another week and a half. :-(

3% over invoice WITH a control number?

You tell them to go to hell?

That would net them a HUGE amount of profit if they did that...

I wasn't sure what to make of it. This guy is struggling with not have a price. When I told him I could best the 1% under invoice that he originally offered with a control number, that is when he came back with 3% over the invoice cost for a 2013 Durango with the options I'm looking for. Well, gee, some of the option prices stayed the same. If the base price goes up three percent or less, then this looks even worse. Didn't tell him where to go yet, as I was trying to evaluate whether or not I was missing something and I might come out ahead here. Don't see how I could. Unless, of course, the base price went up about 10%. How likely is that?

Re: 2014 Durango - Features and Changes

Sounds like the 2014 people are having as good a luck as I am with a 2013...not much.

I contacted a True Car dealer - the offered me two Crews neither of which were equipped the way I spec'ed out to them.

They got back to me and said they would see what they could find. Tomorrow I'm calling back the other dealer that has the truck we want in transit to them and see if I can work a deal.

The low end of TrueCar around here is about $35k optioned as we want. All the dealers are at MSRP - incentives. And..I discovered today that the dealer from Saturday was MSRP less a discount that didn't equal the $3500 in incentives that I thought were available.

When was the last time you saw someone who wanted to buy, but a dealer that didn't want to sell????

Re: 2014 Durango - Features and Changes

So, on a lark, to see how bad it was out there I pinged the dealer I'm working with to see what they'd offer.

Here's the deal I have:

5% under invoice on the vehicle of my choice. They are going to order my Jeep Overland CRD AND the Durango Citadel on Friday.

Once they both come in, I pick the one I want.

Maybe it's just the PacNW dealers. Most of them up here have been pretty eager to help out/make a deal.
