While I realize dealers know very little about what's going on at the production level, the sales manager said his rep told him DVDs were still 2 months out (from ordering availability) when they talked a couple weeks ago. At that rate, I wouldn't get my Durango until mid-December!
Remind me why you wanted Rear DVD instead of a couple of tablets?

I have to wonder if the rear DVD is currently "orderable" for the Grand Cherokee then??? That could be telling.

I'm not sure what's going on there but projected dates are certainly turning out to be overly optimistic.

1. Because I can. (also my response to a friend who asked "why do you need the HEMI?" the other day)
2. For the same reason I don't use my smartphone for navigation.
3. Grabbing a few blu-ray movies at red box for a 9 hour drivefor $4.50 makes a lot more sense than loading a tablet up with movies via iTunes (threw up in my mouth a little bit) or Google Play prior to leaving at $3.99 a pop. Not to mention the fact that I can play the movies from a tablet or smartphone through the rear DVD system if I wanted to. In fact, I can use ANY source with an HDMI out. I could even mount a Direct TV vehicle dish to my roof if I wanted to!

Apart from the fact that you can't even order, your dealer will have a separate message that says that you can't order until the next allocation. Reading between the lines, I suspect that Chrysler ordered a fixed number of these units to be delivered at so many per month and when that number has been met, they close the order availability until the next allocation, which is likely to be sometime next month (for a November build). If I was guessing, I suspect that the next order opportunity will be October 9, since the original order banks opened around July 10 and then closed and reopened August 9.

I am still hoping that we'll see an initial production run start on September 21, for the earlier orders. So I'm saying that it's not necessarily inconsistent for production to start on 9/21, yet you can't order one now.

Oooo, my geek side almost just exploded when I realized that I could even plug a ChromeCast in to each seat!

Does the DVD reside in the center console? If so, would make for a really tough choice to lose the console space.

Interesting. I hadn't thought of that, but given that we've all got tablets here, the rear DVD was never a consideration for us.

Yes, it resides in the same place that the stand alone CD player would reside. It is a tough choice. For me, I don't need a whole lot of storage space up front so it works. If this was going to be my wife's daily driver...it may have been a big issue.

I am hoping to see movement on all the orders (dvd or not) currently in D1 sometime next week as well. I am personally tracking 2 Durangos both with DVD. One was ordered July 11, and one August 10. I'm hoping they both see movement into production by the first week of October assuming the donlen site is correct about the Oct 1 date. I'll keep everyone posted on the status. Like everyone else, I check VOTS and MOTS more often than I care to admit.

Of course, now I also check that dolen site to see if there is any change on that DVD launch date....

Re: 2014 Durango - Features and Changes

I was trying to order a 14 R/T with a local dealer today and the salesman insisted the rear DVD was not going to be an option. It gets tiring trying to explain these things to the only people who can actually place the order from you.

I just want to confirm that it IS actually going to be an option, but just for some reason right now it is not listed on their ordering systems, correct?

And since it is my wife's truck this is exactly why I'm having the dealer swap the subwoofer bin for the non sub-woofer bin prior to delivery.

I'll wind up selling the other one.
