I just want to confirm that it IS actually going to be an option, but just for some reason right now it is not listed on their ordering systems, correct?
Not sure where in NJ you are, but I couldn't even convince a dealer to order a 2014. The fact that you found one willing to order one is an improvement. I don't think anyone here has heard that the DVD will NOT happen. I tend to buy into the allotment theory, and that the option is oversold limiting the ability to order at the present time.

In this day and age, they'd lose sales without it...

At least one forum member saw a Durango in stock at a dealer that had the system. It was surmised to have been an early pilot build released for sale. I'd suspect most of the units at the press events had them too.

Let us know how the stereo sounds without the sub. (I hear this particular sub is pretty weak anyway....)

Shall do. I guess if nothing else the option was worth it for the additional amp, but maybe all it does is drive that sub woofer. I haven't been able to get a clear answer.

I just wonder if the non-audio upgrade models are still wired for the option. If not, selling it might be, um, a tough sell.

Re: 2014 Durango - Features and Changes

My Black R/T just shipped today. Fully Loaded minus the bluray of course. I couldn't get my head around to monitors with lower resolution than two tablets with headrest mounts. The cost of two tablets is $800 to $1,200 and they have games as well as movies. With the $800 to $1,200 saved on the $2,000 option you can rent up to 300 movies for the tablets. I test drove the exact car I will be receiving in a week or two and it was just amazing!

Do we know the resolution of the monitors? I must have missed that.

PS - I totally get your justification about the cost of tablets IF you only plan on keeping the Durango for 2-3 years, the likely time before you'll have to spend $800-1200 on two new tablets. I personally plan on keeping the Durango for 5-7 years, far longer than any set of tablets will last.

Meant two... I too plan on keeping the durango for at least that long, but that brings up an even better point, if I don't care about the extra 2-3 bucks to rent a movie to keep back passengers happy then that extra money can be used to purchase two sets of tablets over that period. Having said that, my wife and I get new phones and tablets every year (due to my gadget buying problem, it's a disease) so that cost is "built in". Even if that was not the case, rear entertainment tends to be for kids and an older tablet will do fine for them, basic games and movie play will work on tablets for a very long time. You can even get larger screens than what is available through Dodge and with better resolution as I mentioned earlier. The kids also have their PS Vitas and Nintendo 3DS's as well as other games/electronics that keep them occupied.

I am not saying my opinion is correct, I know its not and I don't think anyone is dumb for buying dodge's solution. This is just my opinion. If My opinion was correct, no one would get that option and the cars would sit there, as we all know that is not the case. The tablets are a solution that work for me.

I assumed monitors had HD resolution since they were Blueray. I'll have to check.
An argument for monitors vs tablets is that the monitors are always bolted down to the setbacks. Unsecured notebook computers and tablets have been dangerous projectiles in some crashes and I believe I read there have been some fatalities from them in accidents.

Re: 2014 Durango - Features and Changes

Well, they have to be HD monitors, but 720p or 1080p is another story, but i don't know which. Not sure anyone does. I have to assume he was referring to even higher than 1080p resolution, which is a pointless argument when talking about watching movies as the primary use.

As for projectiles, tablets would be a lot safer than the loose knives I leave laying around my car, but my 3 and 6 year old REALLY like playing with shiny things. Who am I to discourage that?

I did mean greater than 1080P and its not a bad argument when you look past movie watching. I don't know but I doubt based on previous screens from chrysler that the LCD being used is that great either. Liek i said before this is one mans opinion and to each their own. For me, tablets make more sense. There is something to be said for integration though...

I'm sorry, you're confirming that the Bluray monitors with HDMI input are VGA? the $2,000 option gives you two VGA monitors? if this is true that is more sad than I thought, what a shame. I take back what I said, this is no longer an opinion, tablets are the better option! Or for the money for get custom headrest monitors installed...
