If they really are VGA, there is no point in me waiting to order, and Chrysler better prepare a separate department to handle the onslaught of complaints they are going to get.

AGREED. Blueray capable, HDMI input and VGA freaking display... Who is even supplying that? Please fire the decision maker(s) including those responsible for the 3G Sprint connection, placement of Blueray player in armrest console and placement of Subwoofer in cargo storage bin. Durango had the chance to be the Smart Technology implementer and even first mover in some categories. Imagine if they had just implemented Lane Departure Warning from Summit and front parking assist from SRT.

Now I have to re-think my DVD Citadel selection especially with 0% financing offer. Very disappointing... So much for their No Compromise slogan.

To be honest, I was expecting this or a similar non HD resolution on the monitors. You should see the resolution on my 2002 factory DVD on my Pontiac Montana.....hideous...but then my kids never complained when we use it.

Do I think it's just another annoying short-cut? Yup. On the other hand I won't be the one watching....my kids will. They probably wouldn't know the difference unless I told them.

I know that's not the point...if you have HD inputs, the output should be HD. Agreed. As long as the scaling down is decent, then I'll be OK with it.

Your other points are well taken too. We need to reclaim the center console storage space and rear cargo storage bin. And why they didn't equip this truck with front park assist is still a mystery to me.

Then again, some of the competition is really behind the tech times....cant even get touch entry and push button start in the GM lambdas, let alone adaptive cruise...

And some of the competition is pushing the limits too. Range Rover Sport has an auto terrain response system, water wading level gauge, axle articulation display and heads up display among others. Sure people pay up for these options like their 23 speaker system but for mass market consumption it's probably superfluous with diminishing margins. However feature implementation without functionality considerations is truly disappointing (ie loss of center console space). Add to that unavailable options available from the same factory (ie Jeep) like auto folding side view mirrors and panoramic skylight and then compromises are apparent. And what is also apparent is the price gouging on the VGA display; why? Sure they all do it. It ultimately just leaves room for other manufacturers, like the Koreans (Kia, Hyundai) to come in and take more market share with their value and design approach. Sorry for the rant but I won't wait for a feature rich Grand Wagoneer to come out; I was hoping to buy something imported from Detroit ;-) and be proud of this otherwise exceptional product. I guess my expectations were too high.

Re: 2014 Durango - Features and Changes

Maybe the DVD delay is so they could reevaluate their stupidity, order HD resolution displays, and punch the guy in the face, for thinking VGA displays on a blu-ray player made sense.

Honestly, it's no different than hooking up a blu-ray player to an old tube TV. Completely pointless.

I emailed Dodge earlier, and will wait for some direct confirmation, even though I certainly trust Milous' info. If they respond confirming VGA, I'll place the order I've been waiting to place since I first found out the DVD system was delayed. Hell, I'd probably already have my Durango, had I known sooner!

Hey guys. I was initially pretty disappointed that I'd have to delay my entire vehicle just to wait for the rear dvd package to become available, so I started to do some research. I went from feeling p'wnd to now feeling glad I was forced to look for alternatives.

For about the same price $2k I'll be getting the best of both worlds. Tablet and DVD active restraint headrests...and tablets can be removed. The other nice feature is that the headrest is made with the factory material so it shows no differently than the stock ones. The website won't show the Active Restraint version (although they do have some less polished AR offerings), but I called and they confirmed that they just haven't updated their website yet.

Check them out Mobile Video Entertainment Systems - Vizualogic ::: Rear Seat Entertainment, Car Headrest, Rear-view Mirrors, Back-up Camera Systems, GPS, Android Headrest, Overhead dvd player here. I called a local installer and they said they can work with them, and that they've been selling the non AR models like hotcakes.

Anyway, thought it might be an option for some of you guys on the ledge.

The Blu-Ray DVD players were first introduced in the Chrysler minivans early this year...

Still stupid. Ordering tomorrow, without the "blu-ray" gimmick, I mean option. Talk about wasting the last month waiting for nothing.

are the VGA below industry standards? What do competitors have? LED? 3D?

I am going to look into the screen resolution thing a little closer. The wording doesn't totally make sense. It may very well be exactly as Milous says and at that screen size resolution is not the defining attribute but something is off with this and it isn't Milous but possibly the specifications.

640x480 is a computer resolution. Video doesn't do 640x480 so I think Chrysler put something down wrong or this is the first not video format LCD in a very long time.
