Has anyone ordered a 2014 Limited? I did so yesterday, and had hoped to include the "Safety, Security and Convenience Group" (rain-sensitive wipers, power tilt/telescoping, blind-spot monitoring and HIDs), but my dealer says it's not on the system as an option. Does anyone know why this would be the case? We can live without it, but I'd prefer to have it.

Just curious, does the Chrysler employee family discount vary at launch versus say 3-6 months after launch, or will I essentially get the same deal either way? Also, what kind of discount is it (leaning toward a fully loaded Citadel, minus the Hemi)? I haven't used it since I bought by 1993 YJ Sport.

Well, here's my latest (and it is not much) after contacting three Dodge dealers about ordering a 2014 Durango Citadel. Essentially, none are clammoring to help me order one. The first dealership implied they would "have" to wait to order one until pricing was available. Then he finally said they could order without pricing, but the VERY best we could do was the invoice less 1% for F and F control number. Next dealership told me they weren't even sure they could order, but salesman was going to speak with their "order lady" (seriously?) and get back to me. I emailed him two days ago, I called him today and held for 12 minutes, and no call back. He at least implied they could probably do a little bit better than the 1%. Last dealership was very responsive to my Internet inquiry. Salesman said he could help, sent me his phone number and asked me to call him at my convenience. When I did, he told me that his dealership had been told the Citadel model was "restricted" from ordering (what?) for 4 or 5 more days. Sounds to me like he's hoping pricing will become available in that time frame.

Anybody else have any encouraging news?

Interesting. I had no problems ordering. In fact, I wasn't planning on ordering one on the lunch break when I visited my dealer to test drive a V6 GC (to get a feel for the drive train.) This was the day after the order banks opened.

My sales rep didn't even know the order banks were in fact open, but since they were he suggested I order one. After assuring me that my 1000 deposit would be refunded if I refused delivery, I figured why not. We agreed on $500 over invoice, but I did join an affiliate so will be getting 1% under invoice minus any other incentives that may be available. (Likely nothing).

I received my VON the next day.

I'm not sure if you are having issues with ordering due to the fact that it's the Durango (low volume) or just the dealers.

I'd advise heading to the WK2 forum and looking in there for "Group Deals" or "Group Purchases". Folks there (including me) have worked out deals with dealers in our area for pricing on the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

I'm not certain if you can work out similar deals with those dealers on a Durango, but, if one of them is in your area, they would probably be your best bet.

I'm not sure if the issue is the Durango or the dealers, but seems like interest in a low volume vehicle would be a positive thing. Don't the JGC's practically sell themselves? They seem reluctant to deal in percentages without 2014 pricing info. Only one of three dealers I've contacted is likely a very high volume seller. As moving from the midwest to Dallas eventually, I think I'll shift my focus to dealers down there and see what kind of response I get. Love the idea of a group deal or purchase, but not sure I want to wait as long as it might take to put together. Anybody out there had a positive experience with a Dodge dealer in the DFW area?

#426 ·
Have dealers received their first allotments for 2014 yet? Seems like if ordering for 8/9 has closed they might, or no?

I'm working with a local dealer on a 2013 Crew, but would strongly consider a 2014 Limited. I'm just not sure I can get the family to wait three more weeks, especially in light of some of the current "deals' on the remaining 2013s.

I wish Dodge would cough up pricing so it was easier to compare apples.

#429 ·
If any of the five Dodge dealerships I've contacted were 1/10th as knowledgable and responsive as members of this forum, somebody would have scored a sale of a 2014 Durango Citadel and I would not be sitting in my kitchen entertaining the thought of going for another test drive in an ML350 or an Audi q7. Can't even get a response from some of these folks. Is it my gender? I thought we were past that. And if we aren't, wouldn't that make me an easy mark?

Sorry. Just venting. And contemplating......

I guess my experience mirrors yours to some degree; I don't think its a gender thing.

I managed to engage a local dealer (in south Jersey) by submitting a 'Contact Us' form on their website. Its gotten me in touch with their "Internet Specialist", and while he's been very responsive on doing a search for a particularly equipped 2013, he has not bitten on a couple of mentions of ordering a 2014.

We did visit one other local dealer recently, and were not impressed with the salesperson. Because of that I won't even attempt the 2014 route with them. The next closest dealer is far enough away not to be palatable.

*Preliminary* MSRP Pricing for 2014 Durango OPTIONS has now been added to post # 1.
Thanks so much Milous! That's a start.

Can you confirm or deny there is a hold on the Limited too?

Also, I see there is no price for the Safety, Security, and Convenience Group (Limited). Any idea/speculation/guess what in the world what is going on with that?

After months of eager anticipation for the MY14, I ended up pulling the trigger on a MY13 loaded max steel awd crew hemi. I went to the dealer to place my order and drove home in a new vehicle. I'm still kind of scratching my head, but honestly, I'm happy with my decision (at least until I see the 14's on the road). Two things changed my mind: a big discount and the new tranny. I test drove a new WK2 and was not impressed with the tranny. When I put my foot into it, it seemed like forever before it engaged and really had trouble finding the right gears from various speeds. i just liked the 6 spd much better, not apples to apples, but just my opinion. Also depends on your driving habits too I guess. Anyway, worth giving the new tranny a go before you make your final decision. You can't go wrong either way (unless you don't get the Hemi)...the 'Rango is one sweet ride.

Yes, I know what you mean. From everything I read and limited experience test driving the '14 Jeeps, the new tranny, while it makes a significant difference over the 5 speed with the v-6, it seems to be only a marginal improvement over the 6 speed with the he Hemi.

I'm getting a v-6, so I've ordered a '14. I'm still a bit nervous after reading the posts and polls about some of the harshness that folks are reporting with the v6 and 8 speed jeeps. I didn't notice that On my test drive, but it sounds like it occurs more after the trans "learns" after a few hundred miles of driving. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

in any case, enjoy your new ride! Mine's going to be further delayed since the wife and I decided to change the color, so we have to actually order another one once the banks open again on Aug 9. Going with crystal granite with light frost beige instead of the brilliant black with tan interior that is already on order...

#452 ·
Well, I emailed dealer # 6 and got an immediate reply telling me he could order a 2014 Durango for me. So I responded immediately with specifics and asked him to get back to me. Once again......crickets. I even checked my spam folder thinking it would be loaded with correspondence from the various dealers I've contacted. Not so. Wonder what would happen if I addressed my next email to ALL SIX dealers, and asked them what their best deal would be on the Durango Citadel that I have previously inquired about. I'm guessing....more crickets.

#454 ·
...crickets.
It's most likely a combination of three things:
  1. They have 2013 Rango's they need to move, so they would be all over talking to you about that.
  2. Allocation is closed for 2014 Rango's until 8/9 (so they couldn't order one right now if they wanted to)
  3. They don't have pricing yet (dealers seem skittish about placing an order without having pricing available)
Lastnight the wife and I spent about 2 hours looking at a 2014 JGC Overland next to a 2013 Durango Citadel.

It came down to a couple things:
  • MPG of the Diesel
  • 4x4 of the Diesel
  • Luxury feeling of the Overland (it was like sitting inside my Merc)
  • Loss of addons in the Rango (Pano roof for example)
  • Cargo room of the Rango
  • 3rd row in the Rango
  • Price of the Rango (would be quite a bit cheaper)
  • Resale value
As much as I love that 3rd row and all the extra storage (almost an extra foot in length versus the JGC), the loss of the 4L gearing without buying the Hemi (dear god no way am I paying that fuel bill), and the loss of some of the luxury goodies and the potential hit the resale will take when they phase out the Rango is what is pushing me to stick with the JGC Overland CRD.

Had they actually given the Rango a 4L with the V6, it probably would have been my pick.

I will say I do really like the styling of the new Rango. Looks mean and sporty.

I'll most likely drive the Jeep until the Grand Wagoneer comes out in a couple years, switch over to it and gain the 3rd row (along with all the goodies).

After reading the troubles some have getting dealers to talk to them about ordering a 2014 I was worried. However, the first dealer I called here in the Bay Area said no problem and made an appointment on 9th to order my Citadel. Of course they all want you to get on the lot by any means so we'll see what really happens. I also don't need to haggle so that helps a lot I imagine as I have the Affiliate Rewards program thru work to get it at 1% under invoice. I doubt I could touch that negotiating for a new model. Hopefully all goes well and I'll sign up for the MOT service here.

#458 ·
Don't get me wrong, it's honestly a hard choice.

I really rather like the Durango, but the loss of the 4Low, and some of the features found in the Overland is a hard pill to swallow from my end.

CRD = Common Rail Diesel.

It will actually be called "EcoDiesel"

#464 ·
Forward collision warning with crash mitigation. I can't find info on what Crash Mitigation does. The older models just have FCW but '14 now adds crash mitigation. I've looked everywhere for the Durango but never found more info about it. At the minimum I assume it would start to auto apply brakes to lessen the severity of a crash but it could be so much more.

#471 ·
Thanks! But geeze... is it possible to have an even worse pic of the wheels? :p

I'm still not sure exactly what the finish is on the Citadel wheels. Chryco likes to put "polished aluminum" to describe anything from a chrome appearance to a painted silver and polished....

The dodge 2014 reveal site doesn't help either. There's a pic of a black citadel with wheels that look like chrome finish, but the "wheel" section and a pic of a granite citadel that makes it look like painted gray and polished.

Can anyone confirm what the actual finish of the Citadel wheels are (chrome or not?)

Any 2014 Durango shoppers have encouraging updates? I've now contacted seven dealers and I've gotten a variety of replies. I've clearly laid out what I want to order, explained that I have an affiliate control number and I've asked for the best discount they can offer (hard to ask for the best price without pricing, Chrysler). I've also explained that I want to finalize a deal before Friday so an order can be placed as soon as the order banks reopen. My best deal so far is from a Houston dealership and salesperson who has made many JGC forum members quite happy. Funniest was a scolding from a Ft. Worth dealer telling me I was NOT entitled to anything beyond 1% below invoice, but since I bothered to contact him he offered to tint my windows. I have to go back and check, but thought they came that way from the factory:). Lastly, I've had two replies from a dude in the Dallas area who hasn't bothered to read any of the detail in my emails to him. Want the deal finalized BEFORE Friday, DON'T live in Dallas yet, but likely will by the time the vehicle is available......so what is his idea? Let's sit across the desk Friday morning at 8 to discuss. Don't know whether my next correspondence should be in a larger font or all caps. Perhaps I'll break thru with my third attempt.

I'm going thru the same process. Currently my best quote is 2% under invoice using the affiliates program. That sales manager said Chrysler affiliate program gives them back 2% of invoice so he'd split it with me to make my deal 2% under. I'm working with 2 dealers and shooting for 3%.

Update: Got the 3% under invoice quote to order a '14 Citadel.

I need to become a car salesman and just become a sponsor for all the major chrysler forums. I bet I would make a killing by just being fair, honest, and knowledgeable.

I realize/know that this is a 2014 thread, so I'll keep this brief...

I had posted last week about my trials trying to get my local dealer to bite on a 2014 order, but was willing to work with me on locating a 2013 Crew (w/trailer tow, sunroof, Uconnect 430N, Crew Convenience and 20" wheels, which we had to take to get the rest). My wife decided she didn't need some of the extras on the Citadel, and was worried the perforated seats would be a bitch to clean and would wear much faster.

Given that we need to replace my wife's Odyssey now (before something else breaks), and she's fine not having the latest model I gave up the chase on a 2014.

We went to the dealer Saturday and came away with their seemingly best offer of MSRP - current incentives.. They made some noise about not being able to deal as much in a swap situation.

I offered them $34k, but after we left I realized they may have thought I meant $34k, and then take the incentives where I really meant $34k. So, when the salesman calls today we'll see what transpires.

We also decided that the two the located for us (Black/Grey interior and Granite/Black interior) are really not the colors we want. Those two were the first they found equipped the way we wanted (we'd initially said any color but white).

Late Saturday I found, through the Dodge website a True Blue/Grey in transit to another NJ dealer. I want to let my dealer know I found it and see if they can intercept the truck and agree to my offer.

We'll see....

Why don't you just contact that other dealer and ask for invoice minus current incentives and see if the take the deal. Sorry, but MSRP minus incentives is a terrible deall on a Durango Crew and if I am dealing with a dealer that says that is the best they can do, I walk immediately. JMHO

I contacted the other dealer on Saturday evening. The salesperson was going to talk to his manager and get back to me with an offer.

I didn't hear back, but realized later that I had called them after their normal Saturday hours. We'll see if I hear from them today.

Agree completely that MSRP - incentives is a terrible deal. I would have thought I could do better than invoice less incentives too.

Well, you're doing better than me. I've heard not a peep from either dealer from Saturday (and I'm trying to buy a 2013 that they should be all to happy to move considering what's coming in a few weeks).

Grrr...
