Re: 2014 Durango Questions & Observations

Hopefully, that MPG will improve with time. I bought the HEMI for the fun of it! I used to drive a V8 back when I first learned to drive. Nobody really heard much about other options then. A 4-cylinder was considered a riding lawn mower. I'm. Not. Kidding. You were laughed at if you even inquired about one.

Come to think of it, my first "real" car that I ever bought -- a 1971 Chevelle Malibu -- had a white interior. The car was bright cherry red with black stripes to make it look like the Chevelle SS. I loved that car...

I paid $3,500. Brand. Spanking. New.
My Dad said I was an idiot to pay that much for ANY car.

So happy for you. Closer in age to you than the 30something Durango owners. Decided on a Citadel AWD with the Hemi. Had logical reasons for the V8 (and, FYI, my first car had one too, with a marvelous passing gear) but "for the fun of it" was close to the top of the list. Did pass on the CD player, primarily because I discovered just a few years ago the joy of loading CDs onto my laptop and then onto an iPod. Life is short, enjoy your new ride, and keep us posted once you get familiar with it. This forum is a great place for advice, feedback, ideas and humor.

Congrats. You will enjoy the Hemi. The Hemi with the 8 speed is awesome. I was first going with the v6 but had the wtf moment. My first car was a 72 Buick GS 455 so I guess I want to get a little of that back. I'm averaging about 18. I got almost 22 mpg on a trip to Boston so highway mileage is not bad.

Okay. I just canceled the CD Player. I'll have to start tackling this MP3 conversion thing.

I just did this past weekend. I owe the group some pictures, and an install explanation. Unfortunately, due to being pressed for time, I didn't document the install (with photos) as I'd originally planned.

Let's just say, for me, getting the job done was a pain in the.....

I'll aim to post some pictures, so you can at least see how they look, today.

Yeah. Putting them on yourself is a lot harder than people realize. I was hoping to find the kind with lights that illuminate the step surface.

Re: 2014 Durango Questions & Observations

Does the RT with tow group (load leveling suspension) have an active suspension? Just curious so if down the road I want to lower it another inch.

If you find illuminated running boards that would work on the Durango, please share!

No, it does not. The load leveling is only designed to reduce squat of the rear suspension under heavy load (e.g. when towing a trailer). There is no driver intervention, or controls.
