IMHO, it doesn't seem that "looks" was one of the criteria Motor Trend examined.

Probably not, no.

I would have considered a Forester for my next vehicle (in a couple of years), but for that CVT being the only transmission available with the turbo motor.

I'll pass on those until its the only option out there....

Re: 2014 Durango Reviews: Forester Wins????

I think Truck Trend and I define "SUV" a little differently.

Nothing against a Forester, but I do not think people cross shop a forester against the likes of a Grand Cherokee, Range Rover, Durango, and Acura MDX.

I realize you cannot split "SUV of the year" down into a bunch of subcategories, but a Forester is frankly alot closer to a Car of the Year than a SUV of the year.

Could not have said it any better then that.

Re: 2014 Durango Reviews

Automobile Magazine coughed up a "first look" on their site today

2014 Dodge Durango First Drive - Automobile Magazine

Here are my favorite lines:
"Inside the utterly pleasant passenger compartment, we couldn't help but compare the Durango's journey to that of America itself, from the land of sod-busting pioneers to one of suburbanites who think all kitchen counters should be granite."

and this:
"In back, the Durango now has the "racetrack" LED taillamps that we've already seen on the Dart and the Charger. One difference here is that the mesmerizing brilliance of 192 LEDs is diffused by an inner lens. For some people -- for example, those who refrain from fisticuffs in public -- it might be bit garish, but Dodge attracts extroverts."

Any introverts in our group? Nope, didn't think so.

And finally:
"And there's truth in what Kuniskis says about the 2014 Durango's overall prowess "in a segment that's gotten a little soft" by emphasizing flexibility over capability. For the family with a boat or a race car to tow -- up to 7400 pounds -- without wanting to drive around in a bus, the Durango is an obvious, excellent choice, a way of adding some flash to everyday life.

Yep. Very glad we didn't buy an Acadia. Nice, but Plain Jane in comparison.

Thanks David.

When a review starts out with this sentence, you know you're in for some quality reading!

"We can't help thinking of the Dodge Durango as a crude beast."

Re: 2014 Durango Reviews

Bumping this again

TFLCar.com (they of the original 2014 Durango "first look not a review" video) are doing a mash-up comparison this week

Durango/Range Rover Sport/Infiniti QX 80/Toyota Highlander

Coming This Week: TFLcar's 3 Row SUV AWD MEGA Mashup Review | TFLCar.com: Automotive News, Views and ReviewsThe Fast Lane Car: Auto News, Views, and Reviews

Criteria was 3 rows and AWD. Strange bedfellows; it'll be interesting to see what they say.

Strange bedfellows indeed...I only really consider the Highlander as direct competition for the Durango, both in price and target market.

The QX80 is a truck (and oodles more expensive). The Range Rover sport has an "optional" 3rd row that from what I understand might be able to seat a couple kids...if you're looking to punish them. (And also oodles more expensive than the Durango).

Agreed on that point. I know you were considering the H'lander too if the dang DVD kept getting delayed. I'm not a Toyota person, but the ''14 Highlander looks like a big improvement over the current gen.

Yeah, I don't quite get the exercise of including these given the platform and price differences, but what the heck....why not. TFLCar is nothing if not occasionally irreverent, not to mention interesting.

Wonder why they used a limited. I wonder if it has the Hemi and what they're comparing. If they compare price and luxury with speed, a fully loaded citadel or R/T would make more sense. Lolling forward to how this works out since I looked at some of these cars... Did I make a mistake? No, this car is amazing, I get a smile every time I see it and again when I get in. Can't beat that.
