Can't beat that.
I can't quite figure out the rationale, but the teaser has us wanting to watch, right? I guess that's the point. I am curious to see where they go with this.

Loving the truck too, even if I've only driven it twice...

Hope the reason you've only driven it twice is because the primary driver loves it too and doesn't want to trade vehicles with you. A win win!

Combination of factors...mostly busy schedules where we're not going the same place at the same time, and yep, she really likes it. I can't find fault with that

It's her car, and we don't normally swap vehicles all that often. It's more likely that I'll drive it on longer trips the first of which (as of right now) isn't till early December.

We did find it fits in the garage which is great for winter. I just need to pad the walls for the doors on the passenger side.

What I really don't understand, is why didn't they compare it to a clear segment challenger, the Explorer?

I guess it was the same planning that lead to the apples and oranges comparison. You compare the fruit you have access to. And while this is more like red apples vs green apples, it still seems like an interesting read/watch. I doubt the Durango will win against true off-road vehicles that cost twice as much, but with TFL, you never know...

My guess is this is exactly what happened. They had these four vehicles around and threw them together. That's why the call it a "mash-up".

I posted the link purely because I thought there would be interest, and not because I thought what TFL was doing made any sense (it often doesn't).

I think we'll be surprised to find that the Durango holds its own.

We test drove an Explorer in our search.

Neither my wife (who is the Durango driver) nor I liked the Ford. There was no comparison in feel, features or drive characteristic. I don't see it as a challenger, but I could see how the market does.

I think when people think SUV they think explorer. It's just so common. They go and test drive it, and it is good enough. There are so many on the road and it hits most peoples price points. Then you get the used market, and there are just more explorers to choose from. My first two vehicles were explorers. Also, last gen and a little less, but the first gen too, models of the Durango are pretty ugly. Second gen especially. I wouldn't have looked twice at it. I think when these taillights start getting around people will start to notice. The 2011-13 look like jeeps at night from the back. Just doesn't get you noticed.

I've heard the Explorer drives like a minivan with lots of body roll and almost "boatlike", was that your impression?

Also, I believe the Explorer is slightly more expensive than the '14 Durango.

We test drove the Explorer and GMC Acadia. I can confirm that both feel very much like minivans. The front wheel drive bias is very noticeable in both, and was the deal breaker for me. My wife noticed this as well, but she did not care as much as I. Body roll and handling we OK, but not great. The lack of power was a big problem for me as well.

When comparing the 2014 models, I feel the Durango wins by a huge margin.

When we compared equivalent Durango (Citadel) to Explorer (Limited) the Explorer is slightly more, but it is really close.

Speaking for myself...

The steering IIRC was much "heavier", and the truck felt like it was "wider" than it is. (seemed like a larger turn radius than it should, etc.) But for me, it was not so much how it drove, but how I "felt" in the drivers seat. I remember not being able to get "comfortable" in it, no matter how I tried to adjust the seat. It's hard to describe really. I distinctly remember feeling that the driver's door was a couple inches too far away (so I could not use the sill or arm rest to sit my arm on.) It was just a feeling that the "space" was just not right.

Re: 2014 Durango Reviews

I hated all aspects of the explorer, and thought the Acadia was a much nicer car. I was right about to buy the Acadia when I thought, hmm might as well try the Durango... glad I did
