Re: 2014 Durango towing

Thought I'd give a little update on the kids. Daughter, son-in-law and twin grandsons left here about a week and a half ago with the new 2014 V6 Durango Citadel with the towing package, loaded for bear. They pulled a 6x10 single axle trailer with his Harley on it, along with a couch, and several softside suit cases and plastic storage containers. The rear seat of the Durango was also folded down and the back fully loaded. They came from Japan with 2 suit cases per person (8 altogether), picked up a few plastic storage containers of memorabilla that was always too big to ship, and the back of the Durango as well as the trailer was full! They drove from Missouri to Washington, DC where they stayed a few days (driving through the Appalachian Mts. enroute), and unhooked the trailer while in D.C. Then finished transit to Rhode Island from DC earlier this week. Son-in-law reports overall 18.2 mpg. He was well satisfied with that considering the load he was pulling/carrying.

He also said that the Durango handled the load very well, even in the mountains and he is well pleased. In his words, "I love this truck!"

Couple observations: We had to get an insert with a 5 Ĺ" drop to get the trailer close to level. I also wondered how much the rear would drop fully loaded. Those load leveling shocks in the towing package really work. I'll bet the rear didn't drop a half inch.

John

Re: 2014 Durango towing

Wow, that's not a big load for the Durango but 18.2MPG average is a pretty good sign for that drive and pulling a trailer.

Very glad to hear they are happy with it!

My Durango is averaging around 13mpg right now for the life of the car under trip screen. When I reset the counter under fuel screen I get about 21.3 using 89 on long trips. I get about 10 when reset in cities. I have a lead foot. On my most recent trip to NY I was in the 20s on the way, drove around NY a bit and back. Fuel for the while trip was around 18 in the Hemi.
