Re: Durango vs. Grand Cherokee

The Durango is the GC with 3 rows of seats for soccer moms.

Re: Durango vs. Grand Cherokee

The Durango is a nice looking truck... and a HUGE improvement over the old one. It's still more "family" than the Grand Cherokee... so I'll take the GC in a heartbeat. Don't need no damn 3rd row!

Re: Durango vs. Grand Cherokee

We have both now. Got the WK2 in December and picked up our Durango Crewlux last friday. Bought the WK2 Overland for myself and have been in the market for a new large SUV because we've always had a vehicle for the third row option and sold our Commander last year. The WK2 convinced me to purchase the Durango but settled for the Crew Luxury version. Very nice but not that comparable. Although I must say there is a little more "meaner" sound from engine/exhaust when you get up n go off the line in the Durango than the GC. Also there is ZERO chance the Durango will go off-road, my front end on the Durango has maybe 4 inches of total clearance, but the front end does look fantastic in person. The Overland is far more luxurious to drive and quieter. Waiting for a nice sunny day to wash and take pictures of them together. Probably tomorrow so I'll post the Blackberry Pearl Overland and the Inferno Red Crystal Durango.

Re: Durango vs. Grand Cherokee

With the Durango being the larger cousin of the GC, we all can envision the Grand Wagoneer being a "Jeep-ified" Durango - Jeep needs something with 7-seats as the Commander gone. I think, the Durango is over-priced, as it is a Dodge. I beleive the Citadel (top of the ine) approaches, if not surpasses $50k. The only Dodge I am paying $50k for is a Viper (which will be back in 2012/2013). Granted, the new Durango is pretty nice looking (not a fan of the sweeping lines from front to rear) and is a vast improvement over the last design (ughhh). So it will come down to user needs.... true off-road ability and usefulness (I dont mean a accessing a campground - are you going 4-wheeling), do you require 7 seats, etc.

The real crime... the dreadful Dodge Journey (FWD, 4-cyl (maybe there is a 6 this year), $25k mid-SUV) is compared to the Jeep GC in class. Certainly doesn't match the quality, appearance etc. But, let's be honest, it's a stripped down, fwd Jeep GC. I get sick every time I see one.

And, while I am on it, the new Compass, aka baby Grand Cherokee, ughh. It too makes me sick that Jeep still makes this Jeep version of a Dodge Caliber. Interestingly though the Nitro/Liberty doesn't bug me as much.... probably because I have a Grand Cherokee and because I think the caliber/compass is butt ugly vehicle regardless of who manufactures it.

I know marketing, business strategy, blah blah blah. It follows nearly all automakers; Ford/Lincoln, Chevy/Cadillac, Honda/Acura, VW/Audi/Porsche, Nissan/Infiniti, etc. recipe for success and market share, but, it is for this reason - and this reason alone - that the new Jeep GC will never be - as many have anointed it - an American Range Rover. Range Rover is stand alone, just as MBenz and BMW are. And there is nothing wrong with that - the 2011 Wk2 is an amazing vehicle for the price, which will almost certainly go up in 2012 & 2013 respectively. I think it $45k for the features an Overland is a steal - some have paid less.

I love my Grand Cherokee and the Grand Wagoneer will be on my list of vehicles when we replace the wife's 2010 R-Class in 2015; whether it is on hers will be a different story.

Have you seen GC in person? I too wasn't sold entirely on the back until I saw it in person. It somehow WORKS with the overall presentation. Then again, it is a personal taste issue. No one right. No one wrong. Thank God! Otherwise, we would all drive the same thing!!!!

Um yeah, I've seen a few in person

I see you are new - so most importantly: Welcome to the Garage!

The Jeep I most fervently wish to see in person is currently on a train that just pulled into Decatur IL. At this point, I'm hoping to see it (and drive it!) either on 4/1 or 4/2.

With that said - I still like the styling when viewed from the front, or the sides too. The back ... meh. It didn't stop me from buying one though!
