I think Durango and Grand Cherokee can live in peace
Here are my black 17 SRT and my wife's Bruiser Gray 17 R/T (love that color and the name)

Re: Durango vs. Grand Cherokee

^ Nice garage. I certainly hope they'd get along. They did roll off the same assembly line after all.

Re: Durango vs. Grand Cherokee

I think the Durango vs Grand Cherokee argument is like Mac vs PC or Nikon vs Canon. There are some obvious facts about each and lots of seat-of-the-pants opinions about the rest. If you look at both and check out the options then you can decide for yourself if it fits your personal needs/wants.

Personally, I sold my older Durango and have been buying Jeep Grand Cherokees for several years now. I am happier with the Jeeps. More luxurious feel to me while the Durango felt more like a truck. Your mileage may vary.

Re: Durango vs. Grand Cherokee

I switched from the Durango to the GC in 2007, because I didn't care for the Gen-II Durango.

But I'm still active in the Durango Owner's Club, and find the Durango to be a perfectly fine vehicle.. I just don't need the third row..

Re: Durango vs. Grand Cherokee

Our family has a 17 Durango R/T a 17 Jeep SRT, and a 15 Overland.
And we had 13 Overland and 14 R/T. The GC and the Durango are pretty much the same car with minor differences. The Jeep feels more luxurious and the fit and finish is a tad better. The R/T feels a lot sportier then the Overland, but doesn't come close to the SRT in sportiness. Now if you want to really go off road, the Overland is king.

So my point is there are differences between Durango and GC just as there are differences within the GC models, but essentially the Durango is a stretched GC with 2 more seats. If you measure by the shared parts it is easy to come to the same conclusion.

Re: Durango vs. Grand Cherokee

One difference I have not seen mentioned is that I stow my tow equipment (mirrors, hitch, guideballs, poncho in the trunk with the spare tire. Isn't the Durango spare underslung ?

It is but it has a nice storage space next to the subwoofer
