Durango vs Grand Cherokee rear seat room

I'm curious as to the rear seat room in these two vehicles. My wife currently has a 14 GC that we've had almost two years now. We have an 18 month kiddo and just found out we have another on the way. The Jeep has always felt a little cramped and we're thinking about trading for a Durango. My daughter's seat is in the passenger side and really won't fit on the driver side with me driving. My question is, is there more space between the front seats and back/middle row for these giant car seats? I also like the idea of more cargo space with the 3rd row folded down. The Jeep has always been ok but it's going to be worse packing for two kids....

I'm looking at probably a v6 SXT with Rallye package rather than the fully loaded Overland Hemi we have now....

Re: Durango vs Grand Cherokee rear seat room

I have the bench seat. When i test drove they both seemed about the same to me and i was figuring if my THREE kids could sit in the second row.

That said- the bench in the Durango doesn't slide at all and that's a PITA. The width is no issue but the legroom can be annoying - at least according to my oldest who is 6' +

Not sure if you get the rear captains chairs if they can slide to give you more room.

The captains chairs are out because my wife likes to sit back there, especially when they are rear facing which my daughter still is at 18 months old. She'll be forward facing by the time the new baby is here so she'll go behind the driver's seat which will help with leg room up front.

I found the website below that shows the interior specs and allows you to compare vehicles. To my surprise, the Durango and GC are identical. The only thing you gain is a third row with less cargo room or more cargo room with the third row folded down. Not sure it's worth it at this point.

Before we found out about the 2nd kid, I was trying to get her into a Charger again. To my surprise, the Charger has more leg room, 3" overall. It's also got about 1/2" more legroom than my Ram Crew Cab. If we have a lot of crap to take along with us, we'll be in the truck with the bed cover, but for normal trips I'd like to not be in the gas hog truck... I think the Charger is looking pretty appealing right now. She had an SRT Charger before the Jeep and really misses it. I wouldn't go with another SRT but an R/T would be nice.

Get the HELLCAT!!!

lol

that aside- i wouldn't be surprised by the Durango And GC being the same. A Durango is the same just stretched a few inches to allow for the 3rd row. Many of the parts are identical.

I'd love a hellcat but I don't think they come with a get out of jail free card. Lol. Maybe they should include one of those rather than the SRT Experience pass. Haha

I knew there were a lot of similarities since they are built on the same line but was hoping the rear seat was pushed back a couple inches. I think even making them adjustable would be a good selling point.

Re: Durango vs Grand Cherokee rear seat room

The captains chairs in the Durango do not slide fore/aft, but there is some adjustment of the seat back angle.

If anything, I would have thought the Durango had LESS 2nd row legroom to help with fitting the 3rd row.

Re: Durango vs Grand Cherokee rear seat room

Well this sucks
I am taking delivery of my new Durango citadel next week and I just assumed the 2nd row had more space than my grand Cherokee
I have 3 kids and it's pretty tight in the back of the gc for the kids..

I was hoping the Durango would be wider

Thanks for the info

Re: Durango vs Grand Cherokee rear seat room

From the C-pillar back the Durango is 5" longer than the GC. Sheetmetal, frame, wheelbase all stretched. Prior to the C-pillar it's identical to the GC.

Re: Durango vs Grand Cherokee rear seat room

If you don't need the 3rd row, a crew cab Ram is great! Backseat is huge and wider than the Jeep and Durango. Toss on a bed cover and a bed rug and you've got a giant trunk now. This is exactly what I have and it's great for traveling and kids.
