Re: Durangos have weak brakes?

Are there any alternate caliper upgrades out there that do not require a wheel change?

Mopar OEM upgrade options?

i think just brakepads will give a good upgrade. Stock pads are meant for long life, and low dust. If you are willing to give up those stock options, you get short life, more dust, but better braking.

not sure if calipers are really necessary, i'm just doing it for brembo. and i need to stop well in this nyc traffic.

my 2011 ford expedition with stock brakes definitely felt snappier with braking. it now has ebc yellow pads, and it stops like a coupe.

Does anyone else feel that the durango has weak brakes?

It really got me to expedite my brembo order.
You are not alone.

Although I come to a good stop each time, I think it's me getting used to the pedal-pressure required. The first week or two of driving made me question whether or not I was going to stop in time, during some instances.

My Honda Ridgeline definitely responded better to braking. I just don't know if this system is "soft, or requires more driver force, or needs to break itself in.

But a bigger "concern" for me is the instant reaction by the HEMI on acceleration. I had one of those OMG moments when I went around a slow-ass guy pulling into a donut shop who was -- how shall I say -- taking his sweet-ass time (pun intended). I decided to go around -- and was almost on his bumper before I realized it. It was a close call! I was shocked by that sudden burst of power. I haven't driven these many horses since I was 18, and my reflexes were sharper then.

Re: Durangos have weak brakes?

I was actually surprised at how well my stock DD stopped under pressure in NYC mayhem and on 80+MPH hiway brake chek's...with those puny looking stock brake calipers and rotors

the bremobo setup is of course a huge improvement, but I never felt scared stock...still amazed those little brakes worked as good as they did...

are the 14's brakes still just as tiny?

Re: Durangos have weak brakes?

I have no previous Durango to compare them to. They act under-sized, however. Or the pedal feels like you have to press it especially hard to get it toi stop quickly. Might be the weight of the vehicle.

Re: Durangos have weak brakes?

I think a little more agressive (not low dust) pad could really help with initial bite. That would make a big difference in my opinion.

Re: Durangos have weak brakes?

They make "more aggressive" pads? Hmmm. I never knew. I'll check into that. Thanks.

Re: Durangos have weak brakes?

I think Hawk has an HPS series pad for the WD.
