first time buyer need help on extended warranty

Hi,

I just purchased a 2014 durango yesterday. it was overall smooth transaction, but the extended warranty purchase at the end completed ruined it. now I need some suggestions. Without doing any research on the extended warranty (my bad), the sales guy first tricked me to believe that I have to purchase the warranty on site, otherwise it won't be available. Then during negotiation, he started with $2400 for 6yr/60K max care warranty, and finally came down to $2050 (showing the face of losing money). Back home, I searched chrysler.com, and found out I can actually purchase the plan anytime within first 48 months, and the quote came out just $1300 for the same coverage. I was really angry. I heard a lot of bad things about dealership, now I believe every word of it. Anyway, today I called to cancel the plan, but they said the contract is done deal(even through it is still in pending status), I can't cancel it now. I have to wait until it goes into mopar system. I know I have 60 days to get full refund, but I just can't stand with it for one more sec. Is there a way to cancel the plan before it goes into the system? And if I cancel this one, can I purchase another one later? I know couple places offer much lower price.

Thanks.

Re: first time buyer need help on extended warranty

First off, I'd go back to the dealer and tell them flat out that if they don't cancel it immediately that you'll file a complaint with your state for deceptive business practices. I'd do it anyway, even if it works.

As an alternative, do you have any phone numbers for the warranty on your paperwork? If so, call, complain and demand it be cancelled immediately.

One of those two methods should work.

Thanks, MDBones.

I will definitely try the first option. As for the second one, I already called mopar CSR, but they can only see the plan once it is in the system. maybe I will try again next Monday.

You might try giving Bob Cline a call ((866) 943-7778) at Harold Ziegler CDJR. He has helped a lot of people on the Jeep Garage website with extended warranty problems. He is very easy to work with and applies no pressure. He sold me a lifetime Maximum Care Wrap service contract ($100 deductible) for $2185 which was $700 cheaper than my dealer (that claimed he was losing money) wanted. Bob even called me later to be sure I was happy and to tell me that he was having his assistant stay late that day just to submit my papers to Chrysler. If you call him be sure to ask him for the code to give you the old prices. They just recently went up. He will do that if asked but doesn't volunteer that information.

Oh, and yes you can add the warranty anytime before you hit 48 months or 48,000 miles but the longer you wait and the more miles you put on the vehicle the more the warranty is going to cost you. Also, as I just said above Chrysler just had a general price increase for its extend warranties that didn't pertain to years and miles but more like to inflation.
