Forward Collision Warning with Mitigation really works

Bad driving on my part but I got to feel the mitigation in full action. Following another car doing 40mph he made a right turn into a residential area. I didn't slow down anticipating he would continue the turn but he stopped, guess he saw a squirrel. While I still had time to swerve around him, my foot still on the gas at this point, the brake warning went off and slammed on the brakes engaging the abs and slamming me against my seat belt.

Lesson learned but good to know my system is working correctly. I have my FCW setting set to Far. I've only had 1 false alert in 2,300 miles so far.

Similar situation to you, although mine didn't have to apply brakes for me. Guy was turning too slow. Wasn't likely to crash, but the Durango didn't trust me (early in our relationship) and chimed like crazy.

Re: Forward Collision Warning with Mitigation really works

When the FCW goes off; ie it detects a coming collision, what visual signal on the instrument panel do I get?

Four times now, I have heard a beep and a large "BRAKE" text in bright red with red bars come up in the EVIC.

Is that the FCW visual signal or some kind of failure warning?

Thanks

thats the FCW warning.

the manual lays it all out but from my memory-
from their it will shake the brakes to try to get your attention.
from there it will slam on the brakes to begin to stop
if you apply the brakes yourself once it starts braking it will add as much brake force as it determines is needed to stop in time.

again that's from my memory- if you want specifics the manual has them.
