Found a hidden compartment while searching for a rattle.

Today I started hearing a rattle, more like a marble sliding back and forth under my legs. Investigating a found it was a nickle in the tracks for a cover that sits under the driver seat. The cover pops out with a little force then slide forward. Getting it back in was easiest done by sliding it back in from behind the seat.

Cool, Is it the same size as the compartment for battery under passenger seat?

This is where the pump for the Quadra Lift suspension goes.
Many are storing emergency kits there, I have seen some of you Americans storing gun safes there too.

Sweet! That is quite the find.

Re: Found a hidden compartment while searching for a rattle.

The saga doesn't end. After removing the nickel I still heard a rolling marble like sound. Wondering if JNAP sabotaged me with nickels I pulled the under driver seat compartment hatch again for another look. I found a small couple inch gap on the side which went to another area underneath the plastic compartment. With a flash light I could only see a very small area thru the gap but saw a loose nut. Using a claw pick up tool I managed to get it out. Hopefully what ever that nut was for isn't critical or even better it was an extra. Not wanting to deal with something slipping down there again I sealed all the gaps with foam insulation. Pics don't show it but I sealed all the way around with the foam.

Thanks for the additional info/tip on the rattle. I'll definitely keep an ear out.

Did you figure out how to use the compartment? Is it easy enough to access to make it worth keeping anything in there that might be for infrequent use (say a compact set of jump cables) or emergency kit/cash?

It's not designed for frequent access but easy enough to do, might be a little worried about the clips getting worn out. Big enough for jumper cables though. I doubt I'll put anything in there. Once I swap out the rear bin for the non-subwoofer one I should have plenty room for my needs.

Does the Durango have a HUGE spare-tire compartment like the Grand Cherokee's?

LOTS of room in there.

Here's my compartment under the driver's seat, full of air-suspension and other modules.

I don't recall ever looking, but we do get large underfloor bin. that sits above the spare.

Re: Found a hidden compartment while searching for a rattle.

I still hear the damn rolling marble/coin sound after removing the nickel and loose bolt I found in earlier posts. I finally traced it down to the door trim panel by leaving the door fully open and doing jerky forward/backward accelerations. Using my trim tools on the bottom of the door to pry the plastic trim open, two dimes fell out. After 2 red herrings this is gotta be what I was hearing. So far I've made 25 cents and a loose bolt tracking this down.

Totally worth buying the car for that.
