Funny Noise in Radio

I bought a 2014 Limited, AWD ,Hemi, a couple months ago. I picked it up just after Thanksgiving. I have 1300 miles on it now. My wife really loves it. I think it gives a great driving experience.

The ONLY thing on our punch list is a noise that occurs when we play the AM radio. The noise sounds like a hand clap or smacking two boards together 5 or 6 times over ten seconds or so. The noise is not as loud as the music, it is in the background. In a 100 mi drive it may occur one or two times or no times. We have the Uconnect 8.4AN AM/FM/BT/NAV

Anybody experience something like this? Any ideas? Not a big deal but would like to know what it is.

Thanks
DanG

Re: Funny Noise in Radio

Just wondering, do you always listen to the same AM station?

I'm thinking of all the people I know who blame their computers when they problem is the website the go to all the time.

Re: Funny Noise in Radio

The AM radio noise can be on any AM station.

It is so irregular that it is hard to change settings before the noise quits. We were able to change to FM one time and the clapping sound stopped. Not sure if it would have stopped if I had not changed to FM though.

Re: Funny Noise in Radio

Is your build date before 11/18 (see the MDH numbers on the manufacturing plate on the drivers door jamb)?

You might be covered by this TSB if you're experiencing any of the described issues

Thanks Davewg

One of the issues noted in the TSB is a popping sound in the radio. I will ask the dealer to update the Uconnect when I take my Durango in for the first oil change.

You can update the UConnect software on your own without a trip to the dealer if you're not on the latest release.

Has anyone else had problems downloading from website? I can't get it to download. Took to dealer and they tell me there's no update. I told them the uconnect website said there was. No help from dealer.

Are you Mac or Windows PC?

If on PC folks, I believe, have had better luck with the Chrome browser. The download can take a decent amount of time to complete.

Best bet is to download the file to your desktop, then once downloaded doubleclick the file to start the extraction process and choose to extract to a USB key.

The only file on the USB key should be the *.iso file.

Hope that helps.

Can you describe better what exactly is happening when you try and download the file?

I assume you're going to this site
https://rsur.extra.chrysler.com/rsur/Uconnect.do
and entering your VIN and following the instructions?
