Headrest Bluray system

Looking for some feedback from any of you that have the bluray headrest entertainment system in the 2014 or 2015 big D. 1. Do the screens have decent resolution? 2. Where do you store the wireless headphones if you don't have the mid-row console?

Wife is considering moving up from her 2012 D to a 2015 R/T, but we saw with the bluray player taking most of the front console, the space we used in the 12 for the headphones seems gone.

thanks

Re: Headrest Bluray system

I took delivery of my 2014 Durango (with the rear entertainment system) in October 2014, so I've had some time with the system.

To answer your questions:
1. Yes the screen resolution is good. I remember reading somewhere what the actual resolution was - as I recall it is something less that 720p. While that would be a big deal on something like the 55" flat screen in your living room, on the 7" screen on the back of the headrest it still looks great. You can definitely pick up on the higher resolution compared to any other rear entertainment system out there.

2. We store the headphones and remote in the webbed pockets on the back of the front seats. We do not have the mid row console.

With all that said, I am not sure I would get the blu ray if I were to do it all over again. As you note, you pay a big penalty in space in the front console. At $2k, it is pricey. Also, the kids are now playing on tablets most of the time they are in the car.

If you are set on a rear entertainment system, it is, by far, the best one I have seen. They did a great job with it all around.

Re: Headrest Bluray system

Thank You. Very helpful. I see you have the Hemi in the Citadel. We are considering the same or the R/T. Not expecting miracles on the fuel economy, but how bad is it around town? We have a V6 2012 AWD D now. Need something with more grunt for comfortable towing.

Re: Headrest Bluray system

Correction...I got my Durango in October 2013 not 2014. So over a year of experience with it.

The worst fuel economy that I get is around 14.0. That's under these conditions:
City Driving
Middle of winter
Short trips
Reformulated gas - winter blend

It goes up to around 23 in summer on long road trips.

One other thing to consider about getting the bigger engine: when you get the Hemi, the ZF transmission comes direct from ZF Germany. If you get the V6, your transmission is made at a Chrysler facility. The Chrysler made V6 transmissions have been having issues - lots of threads on the issues. The ZF made transmissions are flawless.

Looking back, I am really glad I got the Hemi. The power is awesome, and as my 10 year old Magnum has proven, it is a rock solid engine.
If you tow, it should be a no brainer in my opinion.

Re: Headrest Bluray system

Thanks Agonzo. That confirms the hemi for us. I have the v6 with the eight speed in a jeep GC, so I know the issues there. It is better now, but it took many trips to the dealer to resolve.

I picked up Durango same time as Agonzo and agree with all his points. However my kids use the rear entertainment system all the time in long trips which we do frequently. Since there are HDMI inputs we use it with Roku or with MHL android connection when wife wants to watch upfront too. Unfortunately we lost one of our inputs but I'm hoping to have that fixed soon. I just wish there was an easy way to access the storage area beneath the drivers seat to makeup for the lost space in the armrest.
