Hired a mobile detailer

I can't believe I did this but I hired a mobile detailer. I take alot of pride doing my own work. I'm a big DIY guy from electronic repair to deck building and most anything auto.

When I first got my Durango I had plans to seal it with a cross-linking synthetic polymer and then carnauba wax, wheels too, while it was still clean. I got busy and now it's dirty. The thought of spending half a day to do all this makes me groan, I must be getting old. I decided to use some of my rebate money, just got my $1,000 from Chrysler in the mail, and hire a mobile detailer.

I pulled up yelp and searched for guys with good reviews in my area. Some wanted as much as $350 but I finally found one to do what I want for $100. I peppered him with questions to make sure he knew what he was doing. Satisfied, I set up an appointment, he was booked out for a week which appears common with these guys. If all goes well I might end up doing this once or twice a year, gasp.

For $100 and if it turns out to be a good quality detail, I'd do it too.

Aside from being a dedicated DIYer, what's your time worth?

We're always on the go...I'm embarrassed to admit the last time either of our vehicles even saw a car wash that wasn't from Mother Nature :-(

I'd pay $100 a quarter to know it was done, and done properly especially if the came to me. No guilt at all.

I'm sure your personal time worth more than that. I know mine is.

Re: Hired a mobile detailer

Vertrkr, like everything else you post, I'll be looking forward to the results of your mobile detailing, and any do's and don'ts you come away with. A good detailing is on my short list after the abuse mine has already taken, but our favorite local detailer moved to.....Waco. Not close enough to Dallas, and think I'll be looking for someone else before long. Husband rubbed his hand across hood and had me do the same. Said it needs to be clayed and then waxed. Sure, whatever.....but at least I know what an A-pillar is now.

And if you found someone decent, in California, who would do a beast that size for $100, I say that sounds like a heck of a deal.

Re: Hired a mobile detailer

Just got 'er done. Had the guy do a little more than I initially planned so the price went up $160, I gave him $200. He was at my house for 4.5 hours and did an excellent job. Doesn't really look any different from the first day but I know it's well protected for at least 6 months. With this light color you can never get that deep gloss look with the dark colors but I'm totally happy with it.

Wash
2 coats of sealant
1 coat of sealant on wheels
1 coat of wax
Interior vacuum and windows

I just finished your original plan this past weekend, sealer, then a nanowax, then carnauba with the sealer and carnauba going on the wheels prepping for Colorado winter.

Now, I'm looking for chiropractors. Of the two of us, I'd put my money on you being smarter.

Sounds like your set too. I couldn't stop thinking the whole time of George McFly telling Biff to put on two coats.

Hmmm...

A bit perplexed by the notion of a professionally detailed car looking no different than before the detailing. I have had each of my cars detailed at least annually over the past several years and all have shown much improved effects from the work done. Even lighter colors showed more depth.

I hear ya, could be a little better, certainly not worse. First time I've had such a light color and also not metallic so my expectations were low.

Might be his products, I looked and didn't recognize any of them. Maybe I'll supply my own next time like Klaas & Pinnacle.
