Installed Body Side Molding

Fearing a door ding I installed some body side molding. I got it from Sportwing for $161 out the door. The directions talk about measuring and laying down guide tape but I found it much easier to put them on by eye being very careful, once the adhesive tape touches the door, that's it, there's no second chances.

Nice work. Looks sharp, and you'd never know it wasn't factory.

You have way more patience and a steadier hand to do that yourself. I'd be off to the body shop for application. I couldn't do it by eye.

What took you so long? Kidding, of course, and it looks like you did an outstanding job. Nice pictures too.

Looks great. That color doesn't appear to be in their preselected list.

How much of an issue was it in calling them with your paint code?

Do they stick out far enough to protect against parking log ignoramii?

Easy to call. I called as they didn't have my color, they looked it up and added it in although as a different name.
They list it as FS Cashmere Metallic but it's the same color as Sandstone PFS and it was a perfect match. Best I can tell it will protect against most door dings looking at other cars I park next too.

Re: Installed Body Side Molding

Ok, so how difficult are these for people that are worried about messing it up? Looks like these are going to be a must have given how great they look and the benefit against door dings, but I'm worried I'm going to screw the whole thing up badly.

Re: Installed Body Side Molding

It's really not that difficult. You don't remove the tape backing all at once and slap the thing on in one shot.

You peel an inch or so of the backing off at an angle so it can be pulled off while pressing the molding against the door. Carefully place the exposed end on the door leaving about 1/8" gap from the edge of the door. There's a little wiggle room at this point while you hold the molding against the door and make sure it's level. Once satisfied with the alignment begin peeling the rest of the tape backing off.

Make sure you use isopropyl alcohol to clean the area real good before applying. Best if done in warm weather, like 70 degrees or more. Don't get it wet for 24 hours after applying.

They also have molding without the chrome. On the Citadel, I had to de-badge the citadel letters off the door using dental floss.

Here's their install video, they remove the tape from each end and work to the middle. I prefer removing from just one end since I didn't use any alignment tape.

Re: Installed Body Side Molding

Very nice job! I am "that guy" that parks 10 miles away by myself!! My wife hates it but understands. Luckily out here in Texas the lot's are typically HUGE!!

Well done.

Re: Installed Body Side Molding

Is there any side molding without the chrome insert? I saw on that website that there is, but it looks like it goes higher up, but wasn't sure. I like this molding, but with the R/T the wife thinks the chrome would look silly as it would be pretty much the only chrome on the vehicle and wants it all black.

It just sticks on so you can place it wherever you want but where I put mine is the best position to prevent dings.
