Load Leveling...Fail

Hey guys, my brand new Durango R/T with tow package has these sachs load leveling shocks. The R/T has 600 miles on it now so I thought I would hook up the boat and figure out all the adjustments for the hitch to make it sit level. I measured before the weight of the boat was on the D, I sat the boat on the ball and it dropped the D 3/4" exactly and raised the front about 3/8". Thinking this would level out after I drove it around for a few miles I pulled into a flat parking lot to measure the leveled height and it measured the exact same.....hmm...anyone else have experience with these things and how they work? I know the WK2 non QL has the same load leveling shocks. I sold our WK2 overland with the QL and loved the load leveling on that. This was one of the selling features for me on the D even though it was not air suspension but mechanical I would expect it to work better. Thanks

Maybe you should have done the same test with a non-load leveling Durango.

I have load leveling shocks on my Liberty, not the same, but they work the same, and it still drops a little bit in the rear but not NEARLY as much as normal shocks.

Sounds to me like it's working just fine?

Thanks Marlon, I am going to have the dealership check them out just to make sure. From what I have read up on these, it will squat initially when the weight is put on the hitch then as you drive a few hundred feet it will pressure up and level out. Mine didn't raise even a millimeter, that is my concern is that it didn't raise up at all after driving around. I appreciate your insight, thank you.

Yeah, but as far as returning to normal height?

I think only Quadra-Lift GCs can do that, and probably only so much. My Liberty does the same... starts going back up to a decent height after a few bumps actually. :)

True...I guess I was expecting too much after having the QL overland. One thing I did notice on the QL that I didnt like was that when you have people in the back seat and you park and shut off the car then everyone gets out the back end would have the extra air in it to compensate for the extra weight and look goofy with the ass end alot higher than stock. The only way to fix it was waiting for everyone to get out while the jeep was running and let it sense the weight loss and squat back down. I am a little ocd with cars being level at all times...drives my wife crazy.

Got the back full of shingles for a 2 car garage roof. I probably have MORE drop than you did in the rear.

A normal KK... would have been dang near dragging the ground.

the load leveling shocks arent electronic or anything. They are just fluid activated by weight I guess you could say in easy to understand terms. maybe the weight you had on them wasnt enough to really activate them?

Do the non-tow pkg R/T's still have load leveling suspension? I forget, but think its a yes?

one thing I miss about my TBSS was the load leveling air suspension...always knew when it was doing its job by the unmistakable air compressor sound kicking on and off...

"BRRRRRRZZZZZ..."

and being able to fill my tires (and all the neighborhood kids' bikes and basketballs lol) for free, no waiting in line, and no quarters necessary !! just pop the hatch and connect the GM provided air hose ... (which the gauge and spring on it broke in the 1st year lol)

I have been looking into the Load leveling shocks and how they work since I added them to my WK2.

All the explanations I have read and the video on youtube from sachs state you have to drive almost a full mile for the leveling to take effect fully.
