Re: Need Help Understanding Music Issues in 2014 Durango

I use a older iPod Classic too. Apparently they have spinning harddrive and a better inbuilt DAC than Flash Drive (non-spinning harddrive) iDevices.

When you plug it into the USB port it will say it is connected on the iPod and you can only access it from your Car Radio.

Go to 'Media' then 'USB'. It should allow you to scroll through the iPod and play whatever you want.

Hope that helps.

Nope. Uconnect still says "connect device" as if there's nothing connected. Ipod charges, but screen says "do not disconnect" and keeps flashing that as if it's hooked up to a computer. So it appears that the ipod recognized that it's hooked to something, but the radio doesn't recognize the ipod. Does fine when i hook phone up through usb though. Perhaps an update to the ipod software is necessary. Or an all new ipod.

Is your iPod on its latest available firmware?

Dumb question but is it the right cord? I had an issue with my iPod touch where is was using the 'thick' iPod cable plug instead of the thin plug. Not sure if it applies to ipod classics or if it was just a fluke.

Re: Need Help Understanding Music Issues in 2014 Durango

A Few Updates After Testing Various Issues...
(this may have been covered elsewhere, but I couldn't find anything)

a) I have never been able to find any listing in the Manuals telling an owner just what music formats are supported in the 2014 Durango.

b) So I started experimenting. Feel free to add to this list or post your own experiences.

FORMATS TESTED
FLAC -- Not recognized.
iTunes -- I did not test this. Others say "No problems, depending on age of player."
MP3 -- Plays from USB and SD Card immediately. The only issue I've had on some of these is that it lists songs out of numerical sequence, but plays them in correct order. That may have to do with dbPowerAmp settings -- as in, labeling Songs as 1, 2, 3... instead of 01, 02, 03. It then possibly sees 11 as being before 1, if you understand my meaning.
WMA ver 9.2 Lossless -- Plays from USB and SD Card immediately.
WMA ver 10 -- Lists the songs, oddly enough, but says All Tracks Unplayable.

USB AND SD CARD OPTIONS...
I have even used an adapter which had a MicroUSB Card inserted -- this played fine in both cases. If some of you are concerned about a long USB Thumb Drive sticking out into the tray area, this is another choice.

BLUETOOTH...
I've had some issues on my Note 2. I cannot get the Durango to understand Folders or Albums for some reason from the phone. At first, it could not see anything on the MicroSD Card which is in addition to the phone's Internal Memory. Then, after restarting the Citadel it played fine and would list the songs -- but not within Folders.

I then set it to Shuffle while playing from my Note 2 and had bizarre things happen. Plays a song, then attempts to go to the next one in random order -- but sometimes "plays" interactions with the phone. As in "Verizon Network engaged... Extended Network... If you wish to make a call hit 1... " -- and other weird messages. Then it will "cancel" that sequence and start playing another song. Then back to phone notifications a bit later.

I have not determined whether setting specific Folder Names matter -- such as, creating one called "Music", and placing all Album Folders under that heading.

Yes, same cord that the ipod came with. Believe it or not, i still have it after 10 years. I'll have to check the software on the ipod to make sure it is up to date. Just synced the ipod itself before trying it and usually itunes will update the ipod at the same time, but I'll check. Also, the ipod may still be set as a disk drive so that may be the issue too.

Ok, figured out my problem. I have a generation 4 ipod. Uconnect only supports generation 5 and above. Apparently Apple changed the way their ipods transmit beginning with gen 5.

Hmmm. I feel sorry for the people that had ipod docks installed throughout their house. Had a friend that did it and in less than a year they bring out the lightning adapter. Lol

Yes, in the CD version of the Owners Manual it does list the following supported Apple devices (under iPod Support):
Mini
4G
Photo
Nano
5G iPod
iPhone

I have written to Chrysler Dodge Support to get a similar list for the USB and SD Card ports, as to what specific files are supported. I could only find one for the Optional CD / DVD / Blu-Ray Player.

FWIW iTunes is the player software. iTunes plays songs in more than one format. Most of my songs in iTunes are mp3, although I think the songs you buy from the iTunes Store are AAC.
