New UConnect

For those that don't monitor the UConnect thread on WK2 forums there is a new UConnect version out.

It's 13.48.3.

Go here to check your VIN and download.
https://rsur.extra.chrysler.com/rsur/Uconnect.do

Premium folks can grab the files from the VIP section here.

Re: New UConnect

Two updates in 3 months of ownership. Gotta give a big thumbs up to Chrysler. I hope they keep at it to perfect and add new features to uConnect. This is so the right way to do it, letting users update their own cars. I wish it could be done for all the ECU systems.

BTW Willix has the release notes posted in the VIP section:

How hard is it to do the update and what does it change?

Piece of cake. The change log is posted in the VIP section. You can download the files there too but if you're using a Mac probably easier getting it from the uConnect site:

VIP section (need to be a JG supporter, Level 1 or higher to access)

I'm looking forward to the Bluetooth enhancements and hopefully some MAP improvements for messaging too. I keep having to delete any MMS messages to my Galaxy S4 since UConnect does not know how to resolve them when loading text messages causing the feature to not work. UConnect text message (sending/listening) works brilliantly as long as no MMS messages. Supposedly Android's update from 4.2.2 to 4.3 resolves some MAP text message issues; I wonder if the UConnect update has something to do with the Android update too. I'll be doing both updates in the next few days and report any concerns with UConnect/Android 4.3. I've found the best way to resolve UConnect issues assuming that removing and pairing a new Bluetooth phone connection does not work, is triggering the remove and reinstall the UConnect Apps; although that can take a full day before all is back too normal (I've had to do this 3 times). Still, I'm really impressed how well UConnect works overall.

The phone apps say that pandora, I heart radio and others are now active for control by uconnect. I assume these are the major enhancements. The rest will be some bug squashing.

It's Alive!

I've been waiting for this update since I'm a Slacker Radio subscriber. It took the better part of a day to get things working...but it works!

Why so long? Because I'm using a Blackberry10 smartphone....here's the story,

Along with the latest UConnect vehicle update, anyone wishing to utilize the new "Via Mobile" apps in the vehicle will also need to update their smartphone uconnect app.

The previous uconnect android app (without via mobile support) worked fine in the latest official BB10 OS. However, the android player (basically a virtual machine on the blackberry that can runs android apps) does not support android's Bluetooth API, so if you install the latest uconnect app, the via-mobile feature doesn't work since it can't utilize Bluetooth. Bummer.

However, it turns out that there's a leaked beta OS that, among other things, is supposed to have some support for Bluetooth with android apps. So I figured I'd give it a shot.

Long story short...after wiping my phone, loading the "beta" OS (10.2.1055), and loading the new Uconnect app....Eureka! (I know, I'm so easily excited.)

For anyone else who has an Android or iPhone, set-up should take about 15 minutes.

So far it has worked great. Anyone using these apps must first go to moparownerconnet.com, and go to "Setup Mobile Profile" to link your service account(s) (slacker, aha, Pandora, iheart radio) to your uconnect account.

The Slacker interface in vehicle lets you do pretty much what you would need to: select any of Slacker's stations, or any stations that you have created and saved, etc. It displays album art, let's like "like / dislike" a song, etc.

The one thing it does not support, is custom song / artist searches. Probably because to do that, you'd either need to type (a no-no), or it would need a speech recognition interface. (Maybe that will come in the future, but I wouldn't hold my breath).

Attached is a screenshot of Slacker in action...

Just downloaded the update from the forum and applied.

Used a 4 gb USB and it went like a charm.

Now I can play pandora on my silver bullet using unconnect access.

Best head unit I had in a car so far!

I will going to the NAIAS in Detroit and be able to do a quick interview with the Uconnect Marketing Manager. What would you like me to ask?
