Re: Things to check on delivery

Great info all. I found this after I took delivery of my R/T. Wish I had this on the day as I discovered a couple of issues after the fact. Fortunately my dealer is being reasonable and is taking care of the issues. The most annoying issue was not quality or caused by the manufacturer...it was a massive chip of paint on the truck lid corner! The dealer had their body guys repair. Also noticed one of the rear plate lights had condensation inside it.

Question - My R/T did have the alignment issue - I pick her up tomorrow and have been told it is fixed. The dealer told me tonight that there were spacers on the front that they removed. He said he checked with Dodge and they told him to remove. Anybody else heard of this?

Thanks,
Danny

1. Keep an eye on the condensation. It should go away on its own with use of the lights. Probably not a surprise, especially with sudden temperature drops.

2. Shipping blocks are very common. They keep the suspension from moving in transit which can be a bad thing; with vehicles packed nose to tail on rail cars and trucks you don't want to chance any bumping, etc. They're supposed to be removed as part of dealer prep. If not the ride can be rock hard and brittle.

Thanks - this is not the impression I got when I spoke to them today and the ride for the 500 miles I put on her felt great and the car did not ride hard. I got the impression he meant some sort of spacer on the front wheels. Whacky. I plan to probe more tomorrow when I pick my D up.

Strange, never heard of spacers being used from the factory on OEM wheels. Sounds like a line of BS to me but ya never know.

Picked up my R/T today. The mechanic at the dealership showed me the spacers. They are real. He said he confirmed with Dodge that these could be removed. Whacky. I am lost on why they were there. The alignment is tack sharp now. No issues so I guess that's a WIN!!

Re: Things to check on delivery

I emailed my dealer and asked for a photo of the spacers (so I could share) and also to confirm that he consulted Chrysler before removal. Below is his reply and a couple of photo's...I am lost and frankly...so is he. I stopped by a dealer on my way home today that I know has an R/T on the lot...I did not see spacers present.

Hi Danny,

Here are the pictures of the wheels spacers we removed from your vehicle. Also we did receive an email to remove any spacers or clamps we found from a specific list of vehicles from Chrysler, which yours was one of them.

Thanks,

Crazy. Makes you wonder how someone at the factory who builds these everyday all the sudden throws these on and doesn't raise a flag, perhaps it was a new guy. Still wondering why the factory has offset spacers in the first place.

That's what's got my head scratching as well. Perhaps they occasionally use them for show cars when they want the wheels out a little more for appearance? But even then, I wouldn't think that would be done at the factory, but during post production.
