Re: Thoughts on my Granite D Citadel with Blu-Ray

We made it to Wisconsin and Jazmine performed admirably. The adaptive cruise control was worth every cent of the cost. Over the 1000 mile trip, I think I had to actually use the brake and accelerator for maybe 10 miles of local driving, and a few minutes when going through Chicago when the traffic came to a complete stop for a few minutes here and there. Seriously!

I will never purchase another "road trip" car again without adaptive cruise control.

Everyone was comfortable, blue-ray worked great. The ride was smooth and quiet.

A few more comments: we purchased 1 week of Wi-Fi hotspot for $20, since we were able to use it on the way out, and will be able to use it during the drive back since it's during the same week. Kids and wife reported that it worked fine for the most part, though they had to reconnect once or twice. And in certain sections of Indiana, 3G was not available, so internet access become tough.

We will probably not make use of the Wi-Fi hotspot in the future, and just use our cell phone's LTE connections, and just keep an eye on usage. Hopefully, Chrysler will change the radio to support LTE in the future. I did use the 3G hotspot to stream Slacker Radio for a while and it was fine... we did not try and stream any video. We also got some pop-up messages on the radio every few hours about the Wi-Fi service not being registered even though it was. It did not affect everyone's connection.

I was a little disappointed with the m-puh-guhs. We averaged about 20 MPG for the entire trip, and I was expecting higher. However, we are driving on "winter gas" I believe at this point (which has a negative impact on MPG), and more importantly, the cruise control was set at close to 80 MPH for most of the trip. The ol' girl pushes a lot of wind around and I think the sweet spot for MPG is more around 60 MPH or so.

Happy Turkey Everyone!

JoeyD,

Glad to hear your trip went well! We were trying hard to rustle up a little snow for you to make travels interesting, but we fell a little short.

Sorry to hear the MPG's were falling a little short of expectation. We are definitely switched over to our winter fuel blend, and this definitely has an impact on the mileage.

There are still a few gas stations in mid-state that offer fuel without any ethanol.(link attached) If you happen to pass one, I am sure this would give you better mileage on the way home:
Ethanol Free Gas Stations in Wisconsin

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

I'd say 20 mpg with cruise set on 80 is pretty good actually.

Sounds like a good road trip! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

I was up in NY for the day on Sunday, and I'll be headed back there later today. My trip from VA to NY a few weeks back I averaged 21.3 MPGs with speeds usually around 80 as well. On Sunday, now that it's cold, I averaged same speed and my MPG for the trip was only 17.8, that's a big drop. Cold weather alone will affect your MPG. The engine will run better but it will suck up more gas. It breaths better do to the condensed air, but it also has to push through that air so it uses more power. The winter gas on top of all that makes the cars MPGs take a beating. I got pulled over Sunday in Delaware doing 85 in a 55 headed north on 95 about half a mile from the new rest stop. State cop was nice and gave me a warning. He wasn't on the side of the road, he came up behind a group I was with and chose me. I haven't been pulled over in years (Maybe 5-6) I think those lights in the back are irresistible. I make the drive very often, so I know where cops sit and where cameras are. I was pretty surprised since it was unmarked and also not on the side of the road. He must have been hauling to catch up with the group I was in.

Re: Thoughts on my Granite D Citadel with Blu-Ray

Glad to see you made it safely. Thanks for your review of the hotspot, I will try it out one day. The m-pu-guhs I would say is not bad considering 80mph with luggage and 4 people. On a side note saw my second 14 on road today, a white R/T that pulled into the gym I go to. Poor woman probably thought I was some nut trying to talk to her. She warmed up and turns out she to looked at many cars before getting the D. We chatted for a while about the D and I told her to check out this site to get all the info she may want, and that I am an amateur compared to the knowledge on here. Joey maybe she will join the NJ DOG lol. Enjoy your thanksgiving.

Smart not asking her to get a picture of double Ds, you need a lot of groundwork to pull that conversation off with a new lady.

Gtaz19, LOL True, I surprised I did not mention it jus out of habit. Sometimes I speak without thinking. I did mention taking pictures with another D, but I think I refrained from the Double D quote, but I can't guarantee it. Oh boy!!

Gtaz19, you sure you weren't pulled over because the state trooper wanted to look at the Durango up close? Almost sounds like fodder for Durango commercial: a gleaming new RT Durango roaring down the highway, and a bored statie with a taste for fast cars and nothing else to do. I bet, as you pulled away, he looked at the RT, then at his cruiser, then back at the RT, and said: "damn, there's a new sheriff in town."

Just to complete the conversation...

On my ride back home (average temps were about 15-20 degrees warmer), I averaged just a couple ticks below 23 MPGs, with the same driving characteristics. (averaged MPH in the high 70s). This is quite the difference from the 19+ MPGs on the ride out.

Very, very happy with that. Could be a combination of both the temperature and perhaps the gas itself (some stations may not be using winter blends yet, etc.) Either that, or it's all uphill on the way to Milwaukee and downhill on the way back.

Again, the D performed admirably the entire trip. Great ride, kids loved the entertainment...the ACC worth every penny for me, the driver. I even used the built in Yelp app to find a place for dinner in bloomsburg PA.

XM Traffic also worked fine...it picked up a 10 mile back-up (going the other way thankfully) on I-80 in central PA. It also picked up the several mile slow-down in Chicago on my way out.

In short, the Daddy Wagon passed the first 2000 mile road trip with flying colors!

Good deal

Glad the return trip was uneventful, and that a good holiday was had by all.
