What grade gas do you buy?

I think I read somewhere with the 5.7 Hemi 89 is recommended.

i do premium because here premium is only 91 anyways and thats only at some places, but typical is 90 for premium. i hate that i cant get 93

My 2012 JGC OM recommends 89 but 87 is "acceptable". I have been running only 89 octane for the last 6-7 months and the only difference I can tell is a slight increase in gas mileage of about .5 - 1 mpg. Here in Georgia we have 87, 89, and 91.

Anything over 89 in the stock 5.7 is just to make you feel good, not your engine. Any perceived benefits are just that ... perceived.

I use 89.

I run 87 in the 5.7 hemi and have been getting phenomenal highway mileage like 25-26 highway. The 87 runs great smooth no issues plenty of power. I just always make sure to stick to brand name gas no mini marts or off brands. The gas may all come from the same refineries but better and consistent additives and detergents are what you get with the brand names.

perhaps but when your premium is only 90..... id rather go higher 1 octane to reduce chance of detonation then lower. Agree?

86. 88, 90 some places, only a few mind you, do 87,89,91. thats all we get

Higher the octane the less energy density (BTU) gasoline will have which leads to reduced mpg. Granted it's not much but that's how it works. This can be overcome by advancing the timing but I don't know if Chrysler designed the ECU mapping to take advantage of higher octane fuel that it's designed for, it doesn't sound like it from everything I've read. It will retard the timing if you use lower octane AND it senses pre-detonation (knocking, pinging) but that will reduce mpg slightly when it retards the timing.

Bottom line is the differences are usually so slight you should use what ever grade makes you happy. Unless you hear your engine knocking then go up a grade.

I agree with going to 90. I was referring to you wishing for 93.

i don't see higher octane performing worse with the Hemi, perhaps no better but certainly not worse . and im sure their is a map for premium, I'm just going to guess it makes zero difference.

though again the highest I've run in mine is 91 not 93. but based on every car I've owned, higher octane wont hurt performance just the pocket book, but lower then recommended octane damn sure hurts so like most say, probably a matter of preference.
