Question 275/55R20 Cooper Discoverer AT3 on WK2?

Hi all, first time posting here and I'm wondering if anyone has any photos of a WK2 with stock 20" rims wrapped in Cooper Discoverer A/T3 in a 275/55R20?

I did some searching and came across several postings of WK2s with Cooper Zeon LTZ in both 275/55R20 and 285/50R20, but I'm leaning towards the 275s in the AT3.

Truck is a stock 2012 Grand Cherokee Laredo with a Hemi. Picked up a set of stock jeep 20's on eBay. It's actually my wife's truck and never leaves the pavement, but we both prefer the look of an all-terrain and I like the fact that the AT3s are rated at 55,000 miles. Cooper also has a $70 rebate on these which end tomorrow (April 15th) so I've got to make a decision quick!

Re: 275/55R20 Cooper Discoverer AT3 on WK2?

Greetings and welcome,

Since you reside in in western NY and in the snow belt region, look into the Cooper AT/W. It is a LT 275/65/20 S rated for speed. This is the improvement over the AT/3. Some of the complaints with the AT/3 came from a lack of gripping power especially with the ice.

Today the on/off road AT tires are offering more traction for the winter over the prior years. By no means they are a dedicated winter tire nor the all weather highway tires, but they do give you a better advantage than ever before. Check out the main WK2 forums for more information. You are looking for GY Duratrac, Nitto, Nokian and BFG.

Best for now.

Thanks but I should have mentioned that I will only be running these in the summer. I always run dedicated snow tires in the winter for both the added traction and so my nicer rims don't get trashed from all the road salt.

Greetings,

Very good. Go for the AT/3. That was going to be my 2nd choice before I pulled the trigger for the Nokian's.

Best for now.

I pulled the trigger on the A/T3 only decision now is do I go with raised white letters out? Will post photos once they are on the truck.

In case anyone else is looking to run these, here are some photos, I think they look and ride great.

I know this is an old thread but, I've been thinking about the same tire and was searching for a pic with them installed. Thanks for the pics, they look great.

Best of luck to you Vernman.

Just so you are aware, the AT3s are terrible in the snow but I ran a set of studded Cooper WSC in a 255/65/R18 (0.4" narrower and 0.5" taller than stock size) for the winter and they are amazing although super noisy!

I'm surprised you said they're terrible in the snow, I have a set on my F-250 and it goes like a tank in the snow, Apples to oranges I guess.
I don't care for the stock Goodyear forteras in the snow, I'm looking for something more aggressive and a little bigger.

Re: 275/55R20 Cooper Discoverer AT3 on WK2?

Our Jeep came with BF Goodrich Radial Long Trail T/A in P265/60R18 and I was surprised at how well the Jeep handled in the snow, they were on there for an entire winter season. I put the 275 AT3s on last spring and ran them until about December when we got our first storm. The BFG's handled the snow way better than the AT3s, I felt the AT3s winter performance to be unacceptable. I would slide down my driveway in only 1" of snow. The studded 255 WSCs are almost impossible to break free in several inches of snow.

Thanks for the heads up on the poor performance of the AT3's in snow. I'll just have to do some more research and read more reviews on other tires.

I never had a problem with AT3's in the snow, or with hydroplaning on wet roads when raining. It was one of the best aftermarket tires I ever had on my Jeep.
