Chrome wheel help

So I got screwed on a purchase of 5 chrome wj rogue wheels and tires that I spent my precious tax return money on. When I bought them it was understood that the wheels were not in great condition with some peeling but were still nice. The tires are ok. One is a 245/65/17 that's pretty useless. The other 4 are 235/65/17 GY Wrangler SR-A with about 6/32nds tread left at best. One is in mint condition. The other 4 the faces are ok but around the center cap and lug holes and in the spokes are peeling and corroded. The inside of these 4 wheels look like they have been down with the Titanic for 100 years. I've managed to scrape off the majority of the barnacles but I will need to take a wire wheel to the inside of the wheels and back of the spokes.

Since I spent my my money on these already I am going to try to make them look as decent as I can. I know I will never get back the $350 shipped I paid for them if I tried to sell them.

My thoughts were to use a medium wire wheel on my drill for the backs of the wheels and then a fine wire wheel to the spots on the face and spokes and center cap holes to clean off the corrosion and almost polish those areas a bit. I will also remove as much peeing and sharp edges as possible. Then ill paint the backs silver and clear the defects of the face and clear the backs. Hopefully this will help them look decent enough to use for the summer wheels until I either sell them or refinish/replace them. My ronin II wheels will keep my snows on them for now.

Any other ideas as to what I should do? I doubt the member will give me a refund plus shipping. Ill post pics later.

I hate to hear that yo got burned on your deal. Depending on what look you like you can always try plastidipping them.

Re: Chrome wheel help

I wanted them chrome but they might look better painted silver. Can you get silver plasti dip? How do you paint chrome so it will stick? I thought you couldn't sand/scuff chrome?

Oh and I need to but 1 $30 center cap cause one was broken and glued in with silicone.

They have a plastic dip metalizer that is silver. As far as prep I would think it would be the same as any other application.

Here is a pic I found with the silver metalizer over the flat black.

Hope this helps.

Re: Chrome wheel help

Thanks a lot. I like that finish a lot actually. I think I might just grind/wire wheel off all the flakiing chrome I can, and make them as nice as I can then use that on them.

Where is the best place to buy plasti dip?

I am not sure where to get the metalix. I know they have the flat black at Lowe's and home depot.

Those would look nice if they were mint. I see what your talking about with the flaking though. IMO they would look slick in that dark silver plastidip. Let me know what you decide.

Re: Chrome wheel help

You could always try some oxcilic acid diluted to help with the insides of the rims. It does wonders

Re: Chrome wheel help

I've seen them on a WK.

To clean the Barrels inside the wheels, you should buy some IronX. Ever since I bought this stuff it's been great. It cuts through anything and won't damage your wheels at all!

You can buy it through our Vendor Detailed Image.

This was from one of our first JG meets a WHILE back! HIs was dropped on SRT Bilsteins and Eibach Springs. That's why it's low.

Re: Chrome wheel help

I've decided to sell the wheels. My wife is bull shit about what I paid and the condition they are in and she hates the way they look on my jeep for some reasoon so they are up for sale to try and recoop some of what I paid.
