need some new tires what should I go with

I need some new tires I want to be able to go off roading and the street tires I have right now won't let me get into the fun parts
Any suggestions for me? I do still have the Stock tires but i don't have a clue how they do

You'll want to post just a bit more detail.
What year, make and model?
What size are the factory tires if you are looking to replace them.

Any lifts in your future?

Define "off roading"

Are you going to be trying to climb rocks, boulders, heavy slickrock steps, where you might want a very lugged specialty tread?

Mud contests where you again might want a very aggressive specialty deep lugged tread?

Or just the occasional "lets see whats over there"?

As an all around tire for SUVs it is difficult to beat the Michelin M+S/2 for quietness, traction, handling, water, modest winter driving, and more off road capability than you'd expect. I tried the Michelin AT/2 and about the only difference I noted on zero trail type offroading was that it was noisier with a bit less tread wear and no notable more traction than the M+S/2. However, neither is what you'd call a hard core off road for something like a Rubicon.

Its a 1999 jeep grand Cherokee limited I would like to get a 3-4 inch lift eventually but right now I think it's stock ride hight but the previous owner said he had 2" spacers on it then said that coming out to a 1" lift so I am kind of confused about it

If you are looking for hard core off road tires, the Nitto someone mentioned is OK, there are several such as Cooper, and some small brands. All tend to be quite noisy as in very noisy if you don't need them.
