Winter damage to rims by chemicals

How do you protect your Alum. rims from the winter chemicals they use on the streets?

In Montana your rims are gone in 3 months, eaten up by the chemicals.

What can one do??

I have the 18" GC Overland rims that are Aluminum and then FAKE plastic chrome
inserts pressed over the Aluminum.

The aluminum rim lip that is not covered by the fake cover is being eaten up.

Is there anything you can put on these rims or do you have to run winter rims?

Thanks in advance. CK

PS: Fluid Film has been suggested, but I can't find any in stores.

no matter what you do if you let the salt or mag chloride SIT on there it will work its way through.

there are good sealants for wheels; I used one that cost $40 for about 2 x 4 wheel treatment. 22aple.

but i would say it will take some work on your part to periodically clean them or at least rinse them at the $0.25 car wash.

Robpp is right, if you are going to run them in the winter cleaning them often is a must.

You could also try spray painting them with plasti dip. Its an elastic removable coating. Search youtube for plastidip wheels for more info.

Re: Winter damage to rims by chemicals

Good coat of wax at LEAST once a year.

And being anal about cleaning them in salt season.

Here I've found a touchless wash that has a good side/underbody spray, and I'm in there every week in the winter..
