All I know is that there are a number of VERY important modules that have the vin written to them, and because of the vin its looking for specific signals from specific sensors... This is what I dont know about the aftermarket, I dont know how they get around this, I would IMAGINE it would require a brand new pcm programmed to the new motor (as at least chrysler scantools wont overwrite pcm data with a completely different drivetrain configuration) but it may require ALL vin written modules are replaced and programmed... Im just not sure.

Im going to have to agree, socalmopar instantly came to my mind, he is a guy that has alot done to his vehicle and its mostly exactly what he wants, but he has talked big in the past about having a viper motor installed. Nothing personal, he just took ya for the wrong person.

I understand your looking for exact differences, thus the reason I didnt bother responding again, no offence taken.

Also chrysler has changed pcms through the years, I dont know of anything that doesnt use an NGC pcm right now other than like the compass/patriot with the 2.4l engine. Your pcm is mounted to the inner fender between the coolant reserviore and the firewall, if there is 4 connectors in the face of it, that is what he is refering to.
That's it. The NGC computer has 4 plug receptacle that everything plugs into.

Thanks all...

What might have cause the crank shaft rod bearing to brake. I change the oil when it's supposed to be changed...maintain it pretty darn well.

Any speculation?

Oil pump failure. Low oil pressure could have caused you too spin a bearing.

This is nothing. You should see how he trolls the other Jeep forums. I, personally wouldn't give him the time of day, but that's just me.

Re: 05 4.7L V8 Engine Dead: Replacement Advice

Well it can be done. The engine mounts are the same, the tranny is the same...but after a lot of thought I've decided against it. Just not worth the headache of trying to get a shop to do it all.

My ideal car is the 07 WK Hemi....and I'm going to shop around and see what I can get for my current WK...then go for the Hemi.

I'll miss my Blue WK...

Re: 05 4.7L V8 Engine Dead: Replacement Advice

ummm...thats my Jeep. What is your problem dude. You are as bad as you claim I am.

Here is my blog....

www.thedesertfiles.com

I'm Mr. Diaz and I keep it for my students and the teachers I work with. You can find pics under the "The Rig" section of the site. I can post more pics of myself and my jeep if you like.

Email me at the address listed in the "about me" section and I can prove it to you. Or better yet I can dedicate a post exclusively to you. lol.

Re: 05 4.7L V8 Engine Dead: Replacement Advice

Mr. Diaz,
Has the motor been torn apart? Any possible way to get some pics of the bearings, especially the bearing surface? I've rebuilt quite a few various brands of motors and have seen some rod bearing failures and sometimes it can be pretty obvious what caused the failure.
From your blog it looks like you drive in pretty dusty conditions?
Also, what weight of oil have you been running? Just curious.
Thanks
Doug

Re: 05 4.7L V8 Engine Dead: Replacement Advice

Hey Doug,

Call me Joe. I actually just sold the WK today. I got 5,000 for it. I didn't get a chance to take any pics of the engine.

I do drive in dusty conditions...most of the off road driving was in the desert...very dusty...all the time.

The engine oil I used was 5W-30 as specified by the manufacturer. Any idea on what caused the issue?
