05 GC 6 Cyl Starting Issues - Dash Lights Flicker - NEW STARTER

Hi Everyone, my wife has been having issues for the past few months with her 05 Grand Cherokee 6 Cyl. and I am now stuck.

We are having random starting issues, sometimes when you get in the car and try to start it, nothing happens. By nothing happens, I mean the starter is not turning. I still get power inside the vehicle but just no cranking. This has been happening randomly for a few months and we finally had the starter replaced about 2 months ago and haven't had the issue since.

Until 2 days ago... We had to leave the Jeep at a friends house, but when I went back it fired right back up.

My question is, when she drives around and hits a bump or something the dash lights will flicker, this has been happening for almost a year now. I am not sure if that would be a sign of a bigger problem, but I have no idea what it could be. (yes the battery is installed correctly and terminals are tight and not dirty.)

The other thing that I thought may be an issue is her key maybe? the two keys that she has are in rough shape and missing the buttons. Do these keys have anything that could inhibit the car from starting reliably if they are damaged?

Thank You in advance for any advice...

Re: 05 GC 6 Cyl Starting Issues - Dash Lights Flicker - NEW STARTER

I am suffering from the same problems. Just had my starter replaced @ around 44K. Suffered from the dash light flicker.

From my understanding, it should be the keys since I switched mine up and for now no problems.

A similar problem is in this thread, maybe the answers there should put you in the right direction. Hope this helps.

i had a starter fail and never had any flickering problems. looks like you have bigger electrical problems. you can buy new key buttons on ebay for like $5 (but they dont have anything to do with the problem)

I would be interested to see what your car voltage is doing, I wonder if there is a charging problem.
