Question 05 grand cherokee temp gauge moving

i have a 2005 jeep grand cherokee limited 4.7 and the temp gauge while driving is at about a line or two below half but when sitting at a light it rises to about half and then goes back to a little below half after driving for a min. any idea what this could be ?

Re: 05 grand cherokee temp gauge moving

This is normal as long as it doesent go above half. If it goes above half while sitting at a light check if the radiator fan is working. It wouldnt be the thermostat if it drops to cooler when you are moving.

Re: 05 grand cherokee temp gauge moving

yup, check electric fan, make sure its kicking on. My 2003 Jeep liberty had those symptoms and the plug for the electric fan had melted itself into one clump of plastic crap.

Re: 05 grand cherokee temp gauge moving

could be a number of things. just let the engine run at idle until the temperature rises. the fan should kick on by itself. If not you know you have a problem. Could be relay, plug, fan motor.
