05 LMTD 5.7L Problems

Hello,

My 2005 Grand Cherokee Limited 5.7L HEMI with 108k miles is having some problems. I have had an issue while accelerating on multiple occasions. When accelerating from a stop or while driving (can happen at any speed 20-30, 55+ MPH) it will not accelerate or it will jerk a few times and then it will accelerate.

I noticed this problem and told the dealer at its last service/inspection which was a couple days ago. The computer showed an issue with the oil pressure sensor which they replaced. They also replaced the muffler during the same visit.

Yesterday while driving it did the jerking while accelerating and then within a mile after that occurred, the engine shutdown/stalled. It came back on when I restarted it just fine afterward.

So this morning I took it to the dealer to have it checked out and they couldn't find any codes showing up in their computer. They also took it for a test drive and couldn't repeat the problems I was having. So at this point I'm at a loss. I will be doing some heavy driving when I start my new job next week and would like to avoid a failure while driving on the turnpike.

If any one has had a similar experience they would like to share or any ideas on what the problem could be, the help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

Do you have any codes? Also try cleaning throttle body. IS it due for a tune up? Check or replace fuel filter if needed.

Re: 05 LMTD 5.7L Problems

Oh yes, the reason I responded. Mine did a little surging under light throttle. I added Lucas fuel injector cleaner to the fuel on close to empty. I filled up with this fuel system cleaner and enjoyed a tank full of driving (cruising and highway driving). My truck hasn't done this since. It's worth a try. In all my vehicles I try to clean my injectors every 3K miles. This is a good practice as injectors and the trouble to replace them can be pricy. Good luck

Re: 05 LMTD 5.7L Problems

I had similar symptoms at about the same mileage many years ago.

I did plugs, and cleaned throttle body. Both needed to be done, but it did not solve my issue.

I read somewhere about someone having similar problems that went away by replacing crankshaft and camshaft sensors (even though no DTCs were set).

Since it isn't that big of a job, or expensive, I thought I would give it a shot.

That was 4 years ago, and I have not seen the problem since.
