Re: 06 gc hemi transmission poroblem

How can it stall if it has a delayed engagement? Ofcourse it can, but then it should have nothing to do with the transmission. There can be a leak in the valve body or several other places as well, but it can also be the return filter bypass valve, which sits close to the return filter.
But you seem to have two different problems, 1 the torque converter drain back and 2, the stalling of the engine. If the engine stalls when putting the shift lever in D, then it could be that the torque converter clutch does not release. But then it should stall as well in R. Did you check if any fault code is set in the PCM?

Re: 06 gc hemi transmission poroblem

It can be that the torque converter locks up when its not suppost to. There is only one solenoid used for the LR clutch (1st gear and R) and for the torque converter clutch. This is the LR/CC solenoid. It is the solenoid switch valve inside the valve body, which directs the fluid or to the LR clutch, or to the torque converter clutch. When this valve sticks or is actuated erratically, you can end up with a locked torque converter clutch, instead of 1st gear.

Re: 06 gc hemi transmission poroblem

But you said that it was surging now. Surging is not stalling. So does it still stall at a stop light?

sometimes he will stall on stop and some days just rpms dropping to like 400 and letting the brake pedal to let him roll a bit helps or putting in neutral waiting for a green light and switching to drive will stall him

Re: 06 gc hemi transmission poroblem

surging/stalling at idle can be a sign of a bad battery.. how old is your battery?

Re: 06 gc hemi transmission poroblem

Normally when you stop for a stop sign, the transmission should go into 1st gear (when in D), and the torque converter will try to turn the input shaft. As long as you put your foot on the brake, the torque converter, which is just a fluid coupling, should let the engine idle with a little load on it (caused by the circulation of the fluid through the converter) . So or there is an idle regulation problem at the engine side (which could be caused by a bad battery), or the torque converter has a problem (dragging/locked torque converter clutch or an other mechanical problem internally)
