07 commander oem cooling fan help 73k miles

Hi
My cooling fan used to come on at start up and you would hear it roar.
also used to come on with the AC
Now it doesnt do either and when is does come on its low No cold AC either all worked fine last year.

I put power to the fan from battery and it comes on but not like it should or used to
Any way to check with a multi meter?

also looking at replacement fans they list some with resisitor and some without.
How do i know what i have?

Thanks for any and all help

If you put directly battery power to the fan, and it doesn´t run in full power, then the fan must be the issue.
I would look at the fan assy itself to see if there is a P/N on it. Your jeep has the 3.7 or 4.7L engine, right? The 5.7 should have the hydraulic cooling fan.

Re: 07 commander oem cooling fan help 73k miles

If you have the 5.7, unplug the engine coolant temp(ECT), while the motor is running. I practiced this a few times on wk 5.7 before I actually did it with the motor running so I knew I could do it safely. It will cause your check engine light to on but I disconnected the negative from the battery after performing the test. When you unplug the ect sensor, with the motor running, the system defaults to max fan speed. It took mine a minute before it kicked into high speed. This told me the fan assembly did still work & the ECT did not. I replaced the ECT & my engine temp is no longer creeping up like was & i can hear the fan kick on, although it does not sound as loud as it used to. I also pumped out about 3/4 of a quart of the old hydraulic fluid from the power steering pump & replaced it with fresh mopar fluid. My ac was low on refrigerant & was only blowing cold on the drivers side. Had a friend recharge it & it's nice & cold everywhere now
