09 5.7 idle issue

Hello I recently bought a 09 grand cherokee 5.7 2wd and within past week or so if it sits idling long enough (maybe 1 minute or so) it will start to idle all crazy even stall inter. Doesn't matter weather in gear or not just starts going crazy and will even sometimes smooth back out then start doing it again if I just leave it run in driveway. It's got 90k and have every service record for it plugs pcv all we're done within 20k miles I cleaned the tb and changed the plugs anyways no change at all.also tried retrieving codes via key cycles and can't get anything to pop up never sets a mil.any ideas ?

Possibly EGR or MAP. Just more places to check.

Re: 09 5.7 idle issue

What kind of spark plugs did you install? Did this happen before you cleaned the throttle body and/or spark plugs, or since? When does this happen......only when cold, after warm up, only when warmed up, or any time cold or warm? A few things that could cause erratic/stalling are, the EGR Valve, cam/crank sensors, or throttle body problems. Also check for vacuum leaks. Any other engine/transmission irregularities noticed?

Re: 09 5.7 idle issue

Started before I cleaned tb and changed plugs . I put champion copper 446 plugs . Almost seems like it may have gotten a little worse since cleaning tb did pull neg cable while cleaning . I don't even see an egr valve on mine nor does anyone list one for 09 up hemi . Was going to change map sensor next .

Re: 09 5.7 idle issue

This may be a little difficult to find, unless you can hook it up to a diagnostic device. Yes, I think you're right, the newer Hemi's don't have an EGR Valve. Unfortunately, unless you can hook it up, you may end up replacing a few parts until you "stumble" onto the problem. Sounds like a stealer, LOL! The good part, if you replace some of the sensors, none of the key ones are very expensive.....maybe $25 each, or so.

How bad was the TB before you cleaned it? Could you see any oil puddling in the intake plenum? What kind of plugs did you install? Does it happen warm, cold or both warm and cold? Have you checked the transmission fluid level?
