Re: 2005 5.7 JGC limited stuck on 3g w/ slipping tranny

My ex-brother in-law helped out, he was a mechanic which helped out a whole lot. Before I worked on it I took it in to a couple of mechanics all with different diagnosis results...

Did you do a full rebuild with all the seals and a new torque converter?

Re: 2005 5.7 JGC limited stuck on 3g w/ slipping tranny

Full rebuild, everything was changed seals and torque converter. I did have a bit of a problem putting the transmission in due to the fact that I did the work in my garage. Next project will be the front suspension followed by the replacement of the front driver seat last summer I was putting in an aftermarket video/audio system and ended up leaving an exposed blade that I sat on and sliced my own damn seat...

Still lucky that it sliced your seat and not your butt
Did you find any damaged seal in the transmission and where there any completely worn discs? (which could explain the metal particles in the fluid)
That the fluid was dark from probably slipping clutches, had its origin probably in a low line pressure. Do you think it was the pressure relulator solenoid who failed, or did you find anything else wrong?

Re: 2005 5.7 JGC limited stuck on 3g w/ slipping tranny

your telling me, don't need an extra hole back there. Per my mechanic helper seal had very little wear and tear but i suspected the solenoid and valve body where the trouble parts here then again i'm not a pro at mechanics everything else looked good but considering the different diagnosis from shops I just decided to do the rebuild. The jeep had 160,000 + miles on it so I think it was a good Idea to do the rebuild and it actually feels way better 110% better than before, kind of feels like when I purchased the jeep from the stealer dealer. Oh and the clutches plates didn't look at all like the new ones so I'm guessing those where bad too.

One more thing the long oil filter did have a small crack in it, it was not noticeable but it was there. when i took the parts I took out of the tranny to a buddy of mine there was wear on the drive plate.

Re: 2005 5.7 JGC limited stuck on 3g w/ slipping tranny

So could it be that air was sucked through the crack in the filter and caused the low line pressure, slipping clutches and clutch wear?

Donīt want to scare you, but if you had these same messages, i would let the line pressure checked at a shop, to be sure that the transmission is not working with a too low line pressure. It could safe you a future rebuild and when it was me at least would give me a piece of mind to be sure that the pressure is ok.
