Re: 2005 5.7L accelerates by itself out of control?

Personally having been in an old wagoneer that had the throttle get stuck open while driving (my sister was driving, this was YEARS ago), I would venture to say a HUGE majority of "sudden acceleration" is due to either customer error OR poor repair performed at one point in the history of the vehicle, as is the case with our wagoneer, a throttle linkage "repair" caused our problem. I am not saying it doesnt happen or cannot happen by any means, knowing people now-a-days go into mcdonalds and order a coffee that if it was cold you better believe they would be back bitching yet when their stupid ass spills it in their lap they insta-sue like they didnt know it was hot. I have so little faith in humanity that again I dont doubt that it can happen I just know a person climbing out of a grand cherokee after it smashed through a store front after hitting 2 other cars and nearly killing a handful of people that person isnt just going to jump out and say "my bad folks, ment to hit the brake".

Not to mention there is alot more communication involved and entirely different harness and routing and engine bays, even if that was legit (and its on wiki so it must be right?) the odds of a similar occurance happening on a completely different body style, different pcm, different circuit operation (so on and so fourth) is much like compairing that information to a 2006 lexus, because it happened on the mid 90s grand cherokee in theory it could happen to the lexus.

Ultimately my stance on the topic is as I stated, You may have me eating my words and thats fine, its the beauty of the interwebz and forums, not to mention it would be good information to have, that said if there were more than .5% of the population that were wildly honest, I would worry about "sudden acceleration" a lot more than I do.

Also as I stated, if it continues GET IT TO A SHOP asap! You wont want to deal with having killed someone because you just wanted to deal with it till you decided what you wanted to start replacing.

Please do not mis-understand my response. Your evaluation of the "problem" is well defined/understood/ and appreciated. I only looked beyond your assessement of the situation since my wife drives the vehicle 99 percent of the time and has two of my grandsons onboard many times. I value all inputs on this site and surely will not put my family at risk. Having said that, I value all inputs since I do not have a "Positive" feeling about my dealership prior actions and results. I will not elaborate or trash them since it is not warranted. I am nearing 66 and have been in a technical industry(Hawk and Patriot Missile systems) for 35 years+ where the montra was to continue a root cause analysis when problems occurred. Perhaps a failing of mine. In either case, I truly appreciate your obvious technical input and value it accordingly. Thanks.

Re: 2005 5.7L accelerates by itself out of control?

I could not agree with you more that the many dealers and many techs at dealers dont live up to the standards that should be required of a dealer. I dont fault ANYONE for not wanting to go to the dealer, hell, i dont take my own to the dealer (technically I do kinda work here, but even the non chrysler stuff) I try not to take offence to peoples bitter attitude towards the dealer and do what I can to train those under me that we charge more for a reason and the customer deserves better workmanship here. My personal apologies for your experience(s) at the dealer, I wish some managers would pull their heads out of their butts and get rid of the slackjaws that are giving us all a bad name (advisors and techs).

No problem looking out for the fam! Just curious, is this something you have duplicated yourself?

Re: 2005 5.7L accelerates by itself out of control?

Thank you for your honesty and unbiased view-well appreciated. I have not been able to duplicate the prior situation. I have been driving the vehicle more than usual and have discussed the situation with the tech who services my other vehicles. He fortunately is knowledgeable about the ETC system and is suspicious as to the exact cause. He shares the obvious possible causes as you have pointed out. Will keep all posted of any new updates. Thanks.

When I started the vehicle to drive a short distance, everthing was back to normal. Any ideas please? Thanks.
===============================================

Sorry, I do not have a solution... Only confirming the issue! I'm pretty in touch with the performance level of my '05 Jeep GC Limited (5.7L). Recently exited an automatic carwash (vehicle in neutral) during the final stages of the blowing drying process. When I switched gears to drive, my jeep immediately shot out - as if I had floored the gas pedal. I slammed on my brakes and looked down on the floor to see if anything had managed to slide under the gas pedal. It was clear... so i slowly let go of the brakes and again, my jeep shot out like a rocket. It was shocking!

Noticed the ETC light flashing... So I shut my Jeep off in hopes this was an isolated, once in a life time incident. However, when I restarted my Jeep (ETC light still flashing) I attempted to drive my vehicle and it continued to rocket immediately after moving the gear to drive. I continued to drive under these conditions for approximately 8 miles (moving my gear shift to neutral to reduced speeds) before pulling over. When it was in neutral and/or park the idle revved and raced at a extremely high rate.

I managed to maneuver all the way to the nearest Jeep Chrysler dealership and parked it there overnight for them to examine. I will find out Monday what the service department determines is the issue!

Just thankful i was behind the wheel and not my teenaged daughter... Unbelievable.
