I purchased a 2005 5.7L WK back in November. About 3-4 weeks ago, I ran to the store one morning and when I came out, the Jeep would not start. I would not get any clicking noises at all. When I turned the key, there was no noise and the engine would not even try to turn over. I ended up calling a buddy for help and he showed up about an hour later. When he was pulling up, the Jeep just magically started as if nothing was wrong.

I had not had any issues since but this morning, I had the same problem. I get nothing when I turn the key. I tried all day but it will not turn over or even try to.

I have read there are issues with starters failing. Tomorrow I was going to call the stearlership to see if they have one in stock.

Is there anything else that might be causing the problem and not the starter? Is it usually the starter? For those that have had one fail, did it act similar to mine? Would it just up and quit working and not give any noise?

Thanks!

Starter is VERY common. It is a very tight job on the 5.7l so be patient and hopefully you have a decent set of tools to pull from when one tool doesnt work.

There can be alot of things preventing the car from starting, that is the problem when an ignition switch sends a message to turn the car on and it first decides if the parameters are set then it just sends the message out to another module to perform the task. Its no longer 10ga wire from the ignition switch sending power to the starter solenoid.

Good luck!

While it is most likely the starter, also check the battery and connections. Also, the stealer is not the best place pricewise to purchase a starter. How many miles on your 05 and how old is the battery?
