Re: 2005 Cherokee Misfire and using coolant??

OK so i really hate to say this.... but you were right and it happened again this weekend, got it to the shop this am. Not good news this time, it has finally showed signs of a problem. Any other time he has scoped it there was never any fluid or anything wrong. This time he has found antifreeze trickling in, and what he is not sure is a scratch or a crack in the block. As of right now he is not for sure if it is the head gasket or a crack in the block. We went ahead and told him ot tear it apart so we can find the root cause. I know i know everyone keeps telling me to get rid of it but I unfourtnately cant just get rid of it, due to the amount owed on it and other finacial struggles. Either way we go we cant afford the loss on it so our best option is to fix it which will set us back a bit...

Next question where is a good place to look for a motor that isnt gonna kill me price wise but a good motor????

Re: 2005 Cherokee Misfire and using coolant??

it is likely going to be the head gasket

I would find another shop, the only thing this shop is doing for you is draining your bank account and not diagnosing your car... If it takes this much for them to diagnose this problem I wouldn't trust them to do the repair.

Re: 2005 Cherokee Misfire and using coolant??

I am no super tech, I make mistakes, and I miss stuff sometimes... Im human, but just given your symptoms you gave on here and not even getting my hands on your car I knew the guys you were paying to "diagnose" your car were WAY off. That is sad.

Re: 2005 Cherokee Misfire and using coolant??

Any suggestions as to where I might be able to find a good motor for it??? We have decided with what the problems maybe we are just gonna put a new motor in it.

Re: 2005 Cherokee Misfire and using coolant??

ATK, and Jasper had good units when I was in the game. They both have good warranties, and must be installed in an approved shop.

Re: 2005 Cherokee Misfire and using coolant??

That is a HUGE stretch with 100k miles on it... that is ALOT of extra money, I have yet to see a coolant consumption issue that would EVER lead to an entire engine, especially one that works just fine but overheats occationally. It would be another thing if it ran until it stopped or made a bunch of noise...

even if you replaced 1 or BOTH heads with brand new mopar heads you wouldnt be as deep into it as an engine and I can assure you your problem would be fixed, your problem would likely be fixed with nothing more than head gaskets and possibly resurfacing the cylinder heads as required.

FIND ANOTHER SHOP!

Re: 2005 Cherokee Misfire and using coolant??

Listen to what everyone is telling you! Your mechanic is either a moron or he is just tring to get more work out of you...... Find a new mechanic now!! You do not need a new engine to fix these problems
